I need some opinions on what to do for a trolling set-up on my 16 ft. Starcraft. I currently use my 70 hp Evinrude 2 stroke with a trolling plate for trolling. I troll all of the time and this has been working for me for the past 2 years. I was wondering if this will do too much damage to the motor? Should I buy a kicker motor, possibly buy an engine mounted electric trolling motor or save my money for fishing supplies? I cannot afford an expensive kicker motor, it would have to be another older 2 stroke motor. Thanks, Eric

I`d say stick with what your doing if it works.

You trolled with this motor for two years and its an older motor I think it will be fine.

I have a 2000 Johnson 70hp 2 stroke they are good motors.
Same motor you have.

These motors do load up after trolling for a while.
Run her hard for a bit after trolling. Use seafoam periodically to keep internals of engine clean.

If your boat is pretty nice you may for the long term plan save up for a four stroke for your main motor.

A midrange four stroke will suit your style of fishing well someday.

A bow mount Minnkota would be a good investment as well.
