I have two Yamaha's on my Ranger, both warranties are up as of 4/30/09. The main motor is a 250 four stroke and the kicker is a T-8. Anyway Yamaha sent me an offering for an extended warranty for 3 years.
The 250 cost $3000.00 for 3 years and the T-8 cost $218.00 for the three years. First question is does Yamaha have that much trouble on the 250 four strokes that it costs $1000.00 per year for extended warranty. I do even pay that much for my truck which I drive everyday.
Is there other sources out there for extended warranties that are cheaper. This day and age putting out $3000 for a warranty is a lot of money.
I need help.

Put $3,000 in the bank, I'll bet in 3 years you'll have $3,000 plus interest in the bank. The F250's are pretty bullet proof.
Good luck Mark N

Thanks, Mark. That is exactly what I thought. As long as you do your PM on schedule you should not have any problems. I was just having a hard time trying to figure out why Yamaha charges such an enormous price for a motor that probably only gets 100 hours a year running time, if that much.

Are you sure that is from Yamaha? The MSRP of the 36 month YES warranty is only $2700.00 on the F250 and $198.00 on the T8.

Not only is it expensive, but if you read the contract closely you will probably find many EXCLUSIONS. ,,,That is, stuff that's NOT covered as they were during the original factory warranty. It's usually all the stuff you would most likely have problems with in the years after warranty, due to wear and tear. It will however protect you from a blown powerhead.
That's similar to what the cost is for my 225 Opti. I could extend as long as four years at these rates:
1 year - $1070 / 2 years $2180 / 3 years - 3290 / 4 years - $4,400
The only requirement for extending the warrentee was that the engine had to have less than 500 hrs. I figure mines just over the 100 hr mark so I'll opt to pocket the $4k and if I need major service I'll have the money and if I don't, well then $4,400 buys a lot of bait and fuel!

Yes the warranty infor is from Yamaha. The cost for extending the 250HP 4 stroke is $2,970.00 for 3 years and the cost for the T-8 is $218 for 3 years. These are the costs for the Yamaha "YES" program. I still cannot comprehend why it costs $1000.00 per year. It seems to me that they are telling that after 3 years the engines become unreliable.

Their goal is to sell insurance. No corrolation with reliability.
Save you money.

I agree. Just let a good mechanic take care of you and you should be allright.
