I am thinking about buying a Mercury 8 hp long shaft and using it for my kicker.
Honda is just to much money
Yamaha has limited places for service
Mercury seams like it's priced ok any plenty of places around for service
and parts.
Any problems with the Mercury 8 hp.

Have you lokked into a 9.9 pro kicker? I am not sure how much more cash a 9.9 will be. I have a 9.9 And It is AWESOME!

I have a 8 hp on my Lund and if you haven't used a prokicker or T8 you'll be very happy with the motor as I am. The prokickers weren't out yet when I bought mine otherwise I probably would have got that. The 8 hp will perform just fine and do most anything you ask of it, but the extra convenience of the tilt and trim and the high thrust prop would be worth the upgrade to the prokicker.

you may want to look at the Tohatsu or Nissan version of the same motor. I've got a 9.9 Merc with the multi-function handle, and just can't get used to the shift workings of it. Next motor I get will have a separate shifter from the twist-grip throttle.

I had a 5 hp kicker on my old 16 ft lund explorer that I thought was great until I bought a 9.9 pro kicker!

I agree with teamlund... If you can, get the pro kicker. I also wish I have gotten trim with my 9.9 mariner.

I have a 8hp electric start. Great motor. I had an idle issue when I first got it but the dealer took care of that and now it's been 3 years trolling with it and no other issues.

The new 9.9 pro kicker I just ordered was $3,300.
