What do you guys think of the mercury twist in gear grip.
Seems like it would take some getting used to. How do you warm the engine if you want to warm it at a little bit higher idle without putting in in gear. Is it difficult to start?

I personally like it a lot. For a tiller kicker its really nice. I have a 94 9.9 mariner and that was one selling point for me. As far as warming it up... there is a idle speed adjustment knob on the front. The more you turn it up, the faster the idle. Mine works really well. Like I said... I like mine and will have to get used to going with something else when that time comes. It is handy when slip drifting and trolling.

I love it. Simple as that. Depending on the engine you can turn up the idle different ways. Like Hntesox wrote on the 2 strokes there is a choke/idle knob that you pull for choke and/or turn for higher idle. On the smaller 4 strokes, like the 8 hp you asked about, there is a button on the side you push that "locks out" the gear shift so you can twist the throttle and not put it in gear.

My Pro Kicker has a button on the left (looking at motor from being in boat) that says Throttle Only, you press this button and give it gas and it will idel up without being in gear, handy little option.

I've got that twist in gear grip on the 25 merc on my duck boat...works slick...like others said idle is adjustable on choke knob...mine fires right up even below 0

I like it. I don't even think about it anymore. Just twist, and your in one gear or the other. Or none at all!
