Not much room on transom for a kicker, but this one seems to fit. Does anyone have a report on how well these work. Price seem OK. Was told by salesman this is same as Mercury & Nissan, is this accurate?

The salesman is sorta correct. Small outboards from Tohatsu, Mercury (and also Nissan, I'm told) are all made by Tohatsu. You'll find some differences in the tiller arm, shifter location, possibly the mounting bracket, but the power heads seem to be identical.
My buddy put a Tohatsu 9.8 on his boat for a kicker- it's a beautiful-running little motor.

Tohatsu is coming out any day with a 9.8 non-tiller similar to the prokicker with power tilt. If you're interested in such a motor, ask you dealer about details.
