I've heard that these were available in certain markets and that they held a lot of power and were much lighter.(used in some cars) that they can be recharged many times w/o loss of capacity and no memory problems. Has anyone found out a source and prices?

Try this link and read the last few threads that deal with the NiMh (Nickel Metal Hydride) battery. I believe they have been out for a few years and do have places onthe market.

they have been being used on the cordless hand tools in the Makita line for over a year now. I do believe the other companies are starting to use them also. In my 18V cordless drill they have increased the run time easily by %50. Also the batteries seem to hold their charges longer just sitting around not on the charger. I anticipate they will last longer also.

We have Nickel Metal Hydride batteries for use with two-way portable radios. Yes they definitely have a longer life span(actual usage and charging)than Nickel Cadmium. There are also Lithium Ion batteries as well which are lighter and longer lasting than both.
