Anyone have any recomendations where to stay at near Catawba state park? Condo/motel are fine, somewhere clean where we can sleep between fishing. I will have a boat as well, it is on a trailer, no need for dockage.

the old army base or watever, camp perry, offers nice little "shacks" no tv but it offers close access and a warm bed for a descent price.

I'm assuming you mean the state ramps on Catawba Island. Camp Perry is a good distance away, might want to consider Beach Cliffe hotel. Very fisherman friendly and minutes from the ramp. There is also a Holiday Inn Express on the east side of Catawba. If you're going spring fishing, might want to go out of Wild Wings, etc. and fish the reefs there. Camp Perry would be a good choice then.

Call Beach Cliff Lodge 419-797-4553. Closest to the launch, plenty of room for boats and has a fish cleaning station. This is where alot of the Pro's stay when in town.

Beach Cliff Lodge phone is 419.797.4553 and is located up on the tip of Catawba near the ferry dock.
Holiday Village is on Rt. 53 or the East Road; 419.797.4732.
Both have room for the boat and are a 9 iron from the Catawba State Park,

Hehe, Beach Cliff is closer to the ramp but Holiday Village is closer to Rickard's Bait & fast food than Beach Cliff Lodge.
Seriously, just wanted to mention Holiday Village has a fish cleaning station too. Both are close enough to the ramp that I'd skip tieing the boat down but I haven't stayed at Beach Cliff yet.

Another option might be the Holiday Inn Express down by the McDonalds as you start out onto Catawba. I believe that intersection is 53 and 161. I stayed there last Saturday for $51 including taxes. To get that price, you will need to look them up on whitepages.com and print out a 50% off coupon. Nice place with pool, hot tub and good continental breakfast. By the way, breakfast (Sausage gravy, biscuits, scrambled eggs, bacon and then the normal continental items) is included in the price.

Why bother cleaning fish when there are a bunch of fish cleaning businesses in town? It's cheap and you can spend your time doing something more fun. You can even arrange to have them hold your fish until you are ready to go home. Most will do that for you ...not sure about ALL of them though. I know Balboa's will freeze your catch and hold them if you want.;)

Juls,I like to support the local business's but fish cleaning is a cost i can control. I dont know what the going rate is nowadays but I know I paid .50 cents a pound in the past. On a 3 or 4 day trip that can really add up. Last year with gas at 4.25 a gallon, we paid dearly just traveling back and forth. Ken.

I recommend the Holiday Inn Express as mentioned above. Matter of fact, I stayed there Saturday night. My boat is at Foxhaven Marina a few miles down the road. Nice hotel, clean, awesome free breakfast, highly recommended.
