www.hagensfish.com (http://www.hagensfish.com) has .035, .040 and .045 in 25 lb spools.
I use .63 stainless wire.
I had to open up the holes in the mold to accommodate the larger wire.

The best bottom bouncers I've ever used were homemade using stainless steel wire from a wire welding machine. The lead had to be cemented to the wire, because it didn't "solder" in place.
The stiffer wire did indeed provide a better feel for the bottom.

a tight "s" kink in the wire will hold the lead
i buy all my solid wire from mcmaster-carr in cleveland. i use .041 dia. for light bouncers up to 1.5 oz. .043 dia. up to 3 oz. .051 dia for 4 and 5 oz. for all my handline sinkers i use .081 dia. the link below will get you to a good standard wire. if you click on "stainless steel wire" on the left you can view some other types of wire. i find the standard wire to be springy enough for bouncers. try to stay away from the Extra-Bright Spring wire. i find it very stiff and prone to cracking during hand forming opperations. select the size you want to get pricing info. there is no minimum and they sell to individuals

We buy the marker flags you find in a hardware store.
Just pull off the vinyl flag.

I've been thinking piano wire would be "about perfect"
Something else to prepare when working with heavy wire. You will need a pair of good quality needle nose pliers to bend the wire. Most needle nose pliers will bend the plier and not the wire. Either Snap On or Tool Shop (Menards) brands were strong enough for me. Surprising the Tool Shop brand was strong enough, as they are pretty inexpensive at Menards too.
My wire cut-offs have flattened areas that help hold the lead on, or as stated about, a slight bend below the lead works too.
