I'm sorry for such simplistic questions to many of you, but I've ran a search and could not find a direct answer. What is a lindy rig? How is it rigged? Do you use certain pound line test? Braid, flouro, or mono? Spinning or Baitcaster? Rod length and Action?. Thanks a bunch.

Beings that you asked so many questions I am going to write as if you have never been fishing before. Sorry if I seem like I am insulting you, I don't mean to, I just want to make sure you are succesful when you go out.
O.k Lets start at the the rod and work all the way down to a hook.
First I prefer a 6'-6" medium graphite rod
I still use a spinning reel but I am starting to look at bait casters, My ol' man switched to a $300 bait caster and says he will never go back. He wont let me test it so I'm still hesitent to buy one but I think I might this year. make sure you have a descent quality reel with a good drag. It'll help.
I just use trilene xl smooth casting line. I've tried others, but didn't feel they were worth the extra cost. I let my drag do what it needs to do and I'm happy with that. Plus I re-spool my reels often (I'll get to why later) I like to use either 6 or 8 lbs test. I have 2 spools for each reel so switching is easy. If they aren't real active I'll use six lbs and let my drag do the work. If they are attacking everything I'll use eight.
Ok now actually trying the line-
1st pull off about 6-7 feet of line and set it a side - you'll need it later. This will be the leader
2nd put a bullet sinker on the line still connected to the real, pointy side towards the pole. You want it to be as light as you can but still reach bottom, Remember you will be trolling as slow as the boat will possibly go so the weight you need may be different then the wait I need.
3rd put on a small bead
4th tie on a swivel (I forget what # the size is) - you may want to have a snap on the swivel also, that way you can swap out the leader if you want.
5th Remember that 6-7 foot piece of string that you set aside earlier? By now it is blown all over the boat, or your 2 kids, or dog, or someone is tanggeled up in it:cookoo:, you need to find that line and tie a loop in one end and hook it to the snap on the swivel.
6th Now comes the creative part, You can decorate the presintation a bit. I prefer to put on either 3 beads or a small spinner and 5 beads. My Grandpa insists on 5 beads and a spinner. My ol man thinks a hook is all you need. My girl insists on 2 pink beads. Be creative. I switch it up all the time. When you put on a spinner and troll, your line aventualy is going to get twisted, the swivel works, but doesn't stop all problems. that is why I re-spool so often.
7th tie on the hook, You may want a color hook or a regular hook, you wont a find a hook that isn't red in my boat, its all I use- well except my girl likes the pink ones. you will want either a #6 or #8 hook I like to use the small ones with leaches and crawler and the bigger one with minnows (I rarely use minnows tho)
8th when you tie the hook on, you get to decide how long you want the leader to be. I would say you don't want to be any shorter then 3 feet. I usually like mine to be about 6 feet. unless I am using a spinner, then I go down to about 3-4 feet.
Now the art of putting it all to work - TROLL AS SLOW AS THE BOAT WILL GO. I like to keep the bail open and hold the line with the tip off my finger.(thats why I don't use a bait caster) I will pick my pole/sinker up off bottom and set it back on the bottom, while trolling. I will keep tention on the line, but not pull my sinker across bottom, when it gets to where I cant reach any more I will pick it up and move it again. you will learn to love it. You can feel what the bottom is, mud, grass, sand, rocks, gravel, whatever. You will learn to like it. plus you can detect structure without watching your graph as it get deeper let out more line when its shallower real some in. its alot of work. when you get a bite let out line and let the fish toy with it for a bout 30 seconds. after 30 seconds wait for the line to tighten and when you feel the fish set the hook.

JIG it up, that was a great explanation. I could not improve. The only thing I can add, is although I do fish that way, and found it to be successful, my favorite was to fish for walleyes is jigging. Just my .02

Awesome, thank you very much. Would never take that as an insult, great info. Kind of like a changed up carolina rig. Very cool. Now I can really understand all the posts talking about the lindy rig and w/ tips and tactics. Thanks again.

this is my lindy rig...
-6'6" loomis glx 782 rod...great walleye rod!
-10 lb. fireline crystal
-tie a swivel on end..of course! lol
-buy some spinner rigs , single hook or double...depending on what you are goin to use for bait.
-spinner rigs have a loop on the end, hook that on swivel
-get some of the twist-on lindy sinkers(i prefer half ounce sinkers), they are quick to get on and off, and are inexpensive! twist it open and put it above the swivel,so when you pull it in the water it will slide back to the swivel, and stop.
-this rig will run nice and close to the bottom, and has caught 100's of walleyes for me!!
GOOD FISHIN!!
