No kidding. I don't know how old this board is but I've been on this board daily for what seems 4 or 5 years. If they want people to register they should put a stinkin "Register Here" button on the top of every topic page. I have a favorite to here and have never seen an obvious REGISTER button. Yes I've found it a couple times, but if they really cared they'd make it obvious.

Because I have a free E-mail address I can't register and am immediately branded as a trouble maker. I refuse to dump my hotmail.com, there should be a way to be verified.

Of course we would but why keep pushing the issue. Things are just fine the way they are --aren't they? Ya we have Some problems but there dealt with fairly. Leave it alone and enjoy the freedoms we still have left.
I am registered and log in everytime I come on. However, most of the time the system does not recognize me as registered. Sometimes I'm a Charter Memember, sometimes I'm a Guest.

I don't care one way or the other EXCEPT when it comes to product bashing by "Guest Users". One person can theoretically post under an unlimited number of aliases and carry on a complete dialogue by themselves.

Many including myself think this site is awesome and very informative, but get frustrated by what appears to be problems from "guest users". Let's face it, you don't see registered users stirring the pot very often. These freedom comments are getting older than the request to require registering.
it takes less than 5 minutes to register so why not?

..."I don't care one way or the other EXCEPT when it comes to product bashing by "Guest Users". One person can theoretically post under an unlimited number of aliases and carry on a complete dialogue by themselves..."
But then again, so could a registered user post under different names and do the same.
I remain unregistered out of choice. I resent having to register in order to share discussions. If everyone had to be registered, it becomes, even if inadvertedly, a select crowd, which in itself would impact the range of opinions expressed.
If an opinion on a product that is negative is heard lately , it gets labeled as "bashing". Pretty soon we will have a forum much like the content of boating magazines out at present. Did you ever read in any current boating magazine that a product was poor? I havent , everything is "good" or "great" for fear of offending or losing an advertiser. I would hope this board doesn't become as "sterilized".
Just an opinion.

I have gotten none that I can trace back to this site. I usually like to put my middle initial on addresses and change it when I put it on a suspect site. Those are the ones selling or losing your info,,,, Not Walleye Central. I'm sure we're not Top Secret secure here but I know Scott is very protective of his site and does the best he can. I've been coming here for years and think the people getting spammed are the ones going to numerous other sites and having to provide an e-mail address for access. My opinion.

Go to the User Menu/preferences and change it to keep you logged on. Even when you shut down and come back, it will still have you logged on. Then you don't have to bother logging in everytime you visit.

I agree I have seen no spam since registering that I didnt already get.
The way I look at it, everyone that comes to this site is a guest. It is not your right to come here, but a privilege. Do you go to somebody's home, sit down, start talking without introducing yourself ? Visitor don't own this site Walleye Central (Scott) does. Yet he invites everyone to join in. 90% of the board sites I visit REQUIRE you to register. All that is asked is some simple information that as far as my experience is shared with nobody else. The best thing about this site is the civility of it, so why not register & help the guy out. Unless you want to cause trouble ? If so there are many sites that encourage that, but not here. If your worried about privacy it does not exist on the i-net, anyone on any site can be tracked if you use a internet provider. Heck its just simple discussions what do you have to hide, give your name & take credit for your opinions.

The way I look at it is that it makes absolutely no difference what your name is, it's the message that is of substance. It should make no difference if your name is John Doe, Abe Lincoln, The Lone Ranger, Clark Kent or Deep Throat. If you give credibility only to postings where someone is registered with what you perceive as a legitimate name, that is your privilege. You still have absolutely no idea of who that party really is in the majority of cases or if the name is even valid. To me it is the epitome of stupidity. However, if stupidity was a reason for censorship, a lot of what gets posted here would not last for long, even with name recognition. It is the message and should only be the message that matters. If registering is so innocuous why is there such a persistent effort to accomplish it. It doesn't wash! The fact remains that someone under whatever name will post something that someone finds offensive, asinine or just plain stupid. It seems to me "Der Fuhrer" was big on registration. It is the first step in control. Not necessary here as I see it. The powers that be can eliminate any postings that make them uncomfortable. I speak as the irrefutable expert!
True, it is Golden's Site but, like the telepone company, he provides the medium and welcomes the traffic. The telephone company needs my name, rank and serial number to bill me, yet I still get unwanted calls. I fail to see the benefit to the provider of this site or to me that registration provides. The assumption that putting a given name on a registration rather than a "nom de guerre" will improve the quality of postings is an assumption. And you know what they say about assumptions. I have viewed what I deem as kooks on this site(I know, I know). I do not need some self appointed censor e-mailing, calling or more significantly, showing up at my front door to have a friendly resolution of a dissenting point of view. I have always felt I could post anything I had to say regardless of who may disagree on this site. I can tell you that I have never looked up a bio on anyone registered here, nor do I intend too. To me Backwater Eddie, Perchjerker, Waeyes and all the others that post with a pseudonym are recognizable personalities and that in and of itself is enough for the EyeJacker.
Would I register to post here? I'd sooner hang my mouse! :)

............"give your name & take credit for your opinions"??
I do not see the correlation here, as I know who I am and what I posted, I have no problem taking credit or responsibility for it!

My name is The Eyeweighman and I wet me pants.
No, this is not "The Eyeweighman" that just posted above this entry but this is an example of some of the confusion that results from a message board that does not require registration.
One of the arguments against requiring registration that frustrates me the most is... "People can still register as often as they want to under anonymous names and bash products." Yes, technically this can be done but how likely is that? Making registration required does not 100% ensure an end to 100% of the stupidity on this site. However, it does greatly reduce it and that makes registration worth it.
I think the goal is to create a sense of community through registration, not a communist plot to identify the home address and bank accounts of WC users. User profiles do not require individuals to list their name and address. Even the e-mail addresses can be blocked from other WC users. If I see a post from someone called “Dinosaur” that I don’t agree with, I don’t want to find out who Dinosaur is. But, I can get to know Dinosaur and build an opinion of him/her through their posts. The goal is nothing more than that. The guest user factor just creates confusion.
Then there is the "They can take my guest user ability away when they peel it from my dead, lifeless fingers" mentality. I wonder if these individuals fight other things like driver's licenses, fishing licenses, etc. with such dedication? I don’t think taking a measure to reduce confusion and bashing is quite the assault on the American Way some would lead us to believe.
BTW, like I’m sure The Eyeweighman doesn’t wet his pants – I don’t either.
Dont get it?

Are you the Eyeweighman or are you not?
Are you for registration or are you not? If you are, why did you just post as a guest user?
And lastly, did you wet your pants or was it the Eyeweighman or is that the same person or maybe you both wet your pants or maybe you are the same person and neither of you wet your pants?????

No, he is not the Eyeweighman. The Eyeweighman is not registered and will not be forced to register. This pretender is trying to be cute, maybe trying to make a point, anyway he is not the Eyeweighman. The Eyeweighman is actually the clone of the EyeJacker. :)
