Shad Raps

You should try to have a few diffrent makes. Shad raps are always good, most of the lakes in Wyoming are stocked with shad in the spring. Walley divers are a bait I would also have 5's and 7's. Bombers are another good bait. Frenzies both deep and shallow runners in the smaller sizes. That would be a good start. I have tried about anything I can get my hands on and they all work some times. Some work better. Just try to make the size of the bait for time of year and the dept your fishing.

I recently purchased 1 of the jointed shad raps. (Never used one before and have to many lures in my tackle box that have never caught a fish so I went conservative.) A few days later my friend and I are fishing (trolling). We weren't having much luck and my buddy sees the jointed shad rap in my box. He ask if I cared for him to try it. I said no give it a shot. Needless to say he started catching fish on it and then wouldn't give it back. I was using regular sr5 shad raps. He beat me 5 to 1. Must have had an extra little wiggle they liked. I have since purchased 3 More. But to answer you question, shad raps are my favorite.

ReefRunner lil rippers did well at Glendo last year if I remember right. Jointed and non jointed shad raps work well but if you want a stick style bait give some consideration to Smithwick Rogues, nice action, decent colors, and good price.

The advice of determining the main forage fish in the water you're going to fish is good, sound advice. I, too, have many crankbaits that I thought would be great, but they haven't caught fish...yet.

Best crankbaits for walleye...hot-n-tots, shad raps, and rapala. Jack

I have found the Rapala Tail dancers to be pretty effective. The shad rap is an all time favorite. I have not tried the new jointed shad rap yet but will this year. Also had good success with the smaller wally divers.

When you talk shad raps, which ones? I have seen countdown and other styles? Or is it a little of all? This has been a great help, thanks to all.

The standard shad rap gets the most use and is a deep diver, for a little deeper and a little more flahs go with teh shad rap RS, the jointed will dive shallower but have a much tighter and more erratic wobble.
