Looking at a nav 175 and was going with the yammie for the dial down feature. Last dealer who is a respected one in the area and who also deals in merc, e-techs, yammies and hondas , is telling me the new honda is better because it ismore powerful. He said it has more low end torque and is better than the earlier hondas. any one have insight on this newer honda tiller model. is it evena newer version? he said about a year and a half ago they made the upgrades.

You cant go wrong with a Honda...however I think Yamaha and Mercury have better tiller handles and Both can adjust idle speed.

First off you are looking at a tiller so I am assuming you are NOT a tournament fisher. those Fishermen are in a league of there own every thing is based on speed. In a fishing boat the only thing I care about is how it is controlled at trolls.
I am a tiller guy myself. I am 26 years old and before I bought a boat I fished with as many different people as I could, in as many different boats as I could. My ol' man has a 08 navigator 175 with a 75 yamaha 4s and that thing is awesome. The tiller handle very nice. And the motor is a torqqy lil bugger let me tell ya. You will not be disappointed. There is a reason yamaha is the number one best selling motor. In my opinion there are two different kinds of people in the world, those that have yamahas and those that want yamahas. Trust me, you will love it.
I don't mean to rip on any body. If you want a 300hp supercharged boat thats cool too. but tiller guys are a different breed from steering wheel guys. kinda like aluminum guys vs fiberglass guys.

i would get either the yamaha w/vts or the merc w/ smartcraft.
don't forget you can upgrade either with the titan steering system.
HRG will attest to both the optimax & titan.
the larger service network would lead me to merc or yami, they can get repaired almost anywhere.
good luck frank

I don't know anything about the tiller handle on a Yamaha, but I love my 75 Yamaha side console. Great low end power for 4S, it's EFI, trolls down nicely, and it's extremely quiet. I thought I'd be disappointed in the low end punch of this 75, coming from a 90 Hp 2 stroke. I was wrong. And I would assume with the VTS feature, this motor would be even better suited for a tiller. 90 Hp model is very similar, but with more top end.
I don't know alot about the Honda's. Last summer I thought all they had were carb'd 4 strokes and they were more expensive than Yamaha and Merc. Now I see they have both carbed and EFI versions available. The VTEC (2 camshafts) is kind of a cool application for a marine outboard, but not as useful for cars.
