This will be my second season owning the boat. I have alot of things set up the way I want, but I'm always sick of the stupid net flying around, and would also like a place to neatly put rods when traveling on the water, as they usually get tossed in the back of the boat and bounce around. Last season I saw several people with rods and nets standing vertically in the boat, but I never took, the time to look what they were using to hold it. I do have vertical surfaces in my boat on which to mount such a rod holder, and would like to avoid mounting a rod holder like this on the floor. Anybody have any suggestions as to what to use or buy? Is there anything that can lock the rods and net into the holder? Any suggestions?

Thanks

Cabella's sells a holder that mounts on the floor. It mounts where a seat pedestal would. It is in the new catalog. I believe it can hold 6-8 rods vertically. Not sure of the name of it. It is nice because you don't have to drill any extra holes or mount on the side. Just use the existing mount for the seat.

I had an extra seat post, for the fourth seat that I never use, I got the single rod holders from cabela's (the single one are a much better deal at 4 bucks each and more flexable on mounting locations) Anyway, I took the seat post and mounted 2 of the single rod holders on each side using stainless hardware. So by using the standard seat post which has the locking mech. already in place, I've got a holder for two rods, and a place for the net in the seat post tube, and I can put it in any of my 5 seat bases! I could put two more of the single rod holders on the same seat posts if I need to, you can never have too many, right!

Good Luck

Since my rod box is a bit small for those big Penn reels I use for downrigging, and even spinning reels banged against each other, I quit using it long ago. I now carry six prerigged rods in vertical tubes I built for the front of my consoles. The tubes are no more than pieces of PVC pipe, with the top end cut at a 45 degree angle. The bottom of the tubes is secured in pieces of cedar wood. I cut the cedar to length, drilled three holes with a hole saw, and then cut in half lengthwise. I how had two pieces of wood that hold the bottoms of the tubes in place. The top end is secured with stainless screws into the front wall of the consoles. The tube is positioned with the lower side of the angle cut facing forward. The reels set in the lower point of the tube and don't collide with each other. The tubes need to be lkong enough for your longest rod handle, of enough diameter for your fatest rod handle, and spaced so the reels don't hit each other.
The net holder is two pieces of PVC, a "cup" at the bottom of the boat's sidewall, the upper part is a piece of PVC that is notched to hold the net bag (handle is collapsed when running to a different spot) and screwed to the wall of the boat. Mine is behind the driver's chair since I do most of my fishing from that part of the boat. When in the bow, I just hang the net over one of the other seats so I can reach the handle from the bow. It's a lot cheaper than buying rod holders and net holders, and works just fine.
