I have something leaking on the inside cowling and down the outside of my motor. It could be oil or it could be an oil gas mixture. Anyone have this problem or know what could be causing it? My oil level is always full. Thanks for your help.

I have the same issue with mine, it appears to be oil. It seems as though when you are running, and have the motor tilted up, the oil sneaks out around the dipstick. The dipstick seems to have a good seal, but I always get a little oil. Maybe one of the dealers on the site can chime in on this one.

I had the same problem last year. It seemed that when I changed the oil, I put a few ounces too many in it. I drained a small amount, and never had it happen again.
I went by the manual on how much oil the motor takes, but never thought about some oil being left in the motor after I drained it.

Keep your oil level about half way between full and add on the dipstick. Four strokes will "make oil" when they run and once in a while during the summer I will suck some out when it gets to the full mark. I have three four strokes and they will all gain oil after a period of use.

Remove the cowl from around the upper lower unit. 2 screws. Then, whyere the straps go back to the motor mount, look closely at the flat cast aluminum facing the front. There may be a couple indentations there, where the motor contacted the motor mount bolts, and caused a leak. This is the oil tank.

Could someone explain to me how a 4 stroke engine "makes oil"?

Fuel leaking past the piston rings and diluting the oil. Must be common- I hear lots of people complain about it and my 4-stroke does it. Marine engines don't get as hot as auto engines, so the fuel is less prone to evaporate from the oil.
