To those that know, what is wrong with eating these fish? I plan on going to Oconto this year and would like to keep some. Also how is the lodging situation there? I would like to camp but can find very little info on that. I see there is a park north that has camping and a launch but how about south of Oconto. Any tips are appreciated.

You don't say which fish you plan on eating. The walleyes, the smallies, the salmon, what? That would help in answering your question.

There is nothing wrong with eating the fish from there. Walleye in the Bay get a bad rap because the PCBs in the southern part of the bay but that far north alot of people eat them. As far as campgrounds there is County Park II which is right on the bay and has a decent launch, there is also a campground right in downtown Oconto.

That's what i was thinking. It does seem that there are very few places for someone to stay on the western part of the bay. I will also try to get info on geano beach resort.

The walleyes taste great. You just develop a glowing personality. You'll be fine. It's a fun area to fish.
You may want to go here to check on all consumption topics covered by the Wisconsin DNR. Will work / apply for most Wisconisin waters:
http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/fish/consumption/
If you scroll around in the site / web page you'll notice all sorts of information on this topic.
Hope it helps.
I can tell you the fish taste fine! The problem is catching eating size fish. I usually stay at the Stadium Motel(I think that's the name)early in the year and fish out of Suamico. The motel is near Lambeau Field, cheap the good enough for fishermen.I've never had a problem getting a room unless anything Packer oriented is happening. Then I go to Oconto and stay at the Oconto Motel(we call it the Oconto Hilton)on the south side of town.Again, cheap, safe and good enough for me.The number is 920-834-2000.Last year he raised his price to $49.Why camp?I can get you the Stadium number if you like.I,too, drive up from Illinois.
