I know the dealer plays a huge part in the boat buying scheme. Does any one have any thing to say about the Cabelas in Richfield WI. or Main Marine in Racine WI. Main has been around a long time and recently went from a huge Lund dealer to no Lunds but Alumicrafts, along with other brands. Never heard good or bad about them. Cabelas sure treats you good but will they service after the sale? And Main will price match but also dont know about their service record. I imagine I would have heard negatives if they were not stand up but you never now. I also am 20 minutes from Main and 1 1/2 from Cabelas.

I'd recommend Rock River in Edgerton because Frank G. is there. Frank is an expert on fishing boats and will rig your boat exactly like you want. My 2 cents.

I looked for him at the Dane County Fishing Expo and was told by the Rock Marine employees that he is no longer there. I asked where he went and they said they did not know.

I bought my boat in 2007. I have been very happy and service excellent. They also did the rigging, and spent time with me making sure things were installed the way I wanted.

I bought a boat from a local dealer 2-3 years ago, and got great service. The rig was a decent one, but after a couple years I decided I needed a little more room, etc. So, went back to the same dealer, and this time, the place just kinda sucks. The new rig wasnt ready when they said it would be, there issues with bare exposed wires, no steering wheel cap, etc. when I picked it up. First time out it nearly sank, the elbow was broke off the live well pump, and to top it all off, the fuel gauge dont work. Well, I understand things happen, but when I went in there, they acted like they didnt give a crap weather my problem was solved or not. I ended up fixing the problem myself, on a brand new boat.

I will quit ranting now, but my point is, if someone says they are getting good service from a particular dealer, I certainly would go there. I know I'm probably the worst kind of customer to have, because I will not tell them I am not satisfied, I just will not go there ever again. I will not even buy oil from them, and if I need service I will go to another Merc dealer.
I figure they had the opportunity to do it right the first time.

I should have known this would be interesting when I heard the general manager went across town and started up his own dealer, I wish I had gone over there.

I will not mention any names, but If it were me doing it all over again, I would ask questions all over town, even having bought there before.

Thanks for being able to vent.----Goldman :bangin:

Certain management or staff leave, it certainly could have a major effect on the whole operation.
