Looking for some recommendations for the best net for trolling out on Winnebago.

Although I have never used one, I have seen a net by Frabil designed specifically for trolling. It has a piece of material on the front of it so when you net the fish, it slides into the net without the hooks getting hung up on the webbing. Has anyone ever tried one of these? What the so-called "no-snag" nets, or nets with rubber webbing?

The best nets are Beckman Nets, unless you're looking for something they just don't make. They have 3 nets designated for walleyes, I have the Pro and the Mag. for the Ranger 620. We have one on the charter boat that's 10 years old, it has netted literally thousands of walleyes, and we changed the bag last year. You don't wear them out. If you get tired of them, you've got to throw them away. Nice guys to deal with as well.

In my opinion, the Beckmann, hands down. Best Net I'll ever need to own. I have the telescoping, but the 6' (or so) one piece handle net would maybe be a better choice if you don't need the really long length - it's lighter.

I still haven't stuck a crank hook though the netting in three years.

I have the Frabil tangle free trolling net. The handle extends from 48" to 96". I pull a lot of cranks and have yet to have a hook go through the net. With the handle extended out all the way the net is still solid and its nice to have the reach when needed. All and all.....I rate it at as a pretty good net. I hope this helps.

I trust my piggys to Frabill nets.

Sumo Cats are very hard on nets, but a Frabill net will take it.

I'd like to help but my nets are so old that the names are worn off.
Unfortunately, I will have to replace the broom handles this year. For two bucks a handle, you'd think they'd last longer than 5 years.
In the meantime, I will welcome the advice offered in this thread for future reference.

The best net for trolling on Lake Winnebago is the one I won Wednesday night at the Oshkosh Chapter Walleyes For Tomorrow banquet. It's the best because it was FREE!!

I have a less expensive net made by Ranger which has worked well for me. It is solid, has an extendable handle and a rubber bag. Nothing catches in the bag and I haven't had the problems that some people talk about with fish jumping or bouncing out of the bag. Good product for the money.

Beckman hands down. Have had one for the last two years, never had a hook caught in the net to this day and i do most of my fishing with cranks either pitchin or trolling. Its nice to have the telescopic handle if you troll alot to get the extra reach.

The Frabil Net, I believe, is called the Trolling Shovel. My vote is for the Beckman.

Ya know Jim.....the coat hanger idea crossed my mind, but my favorite ex-wife hollered at me so much about hangin' my stuff up all the time that, just the sound of those words would scare any walleye I was tryin' to land. I usually get a few more years out of a net by intertwining light wire, though, through the top loops and around the hoop when they start wearin' out. Heck...a new net costs more than a whole flat of crawlers! And besides, a guy has to be careful. If you don't get a check at the tourney, you gotta eat the crawlers on the way home just to survive. Ol'Probst taught me that!lol and that all said....
I gotta bridge in 'Frisco I'll sell ya cheap too.

Steve,
Really, I'm kinda into bridges.... , I'll swap you my part interest in Davis Besse for it.

LOL (someone's got to have a sense of humor around here)

I gotta give the Beckman another vote, durable, no frills, no snags. Last net I hope to ever own...I have had it for 7 years and at 36 years old, I plan to fish for at least 40 more years. I think I will pass it down to my son when I turn 75! It may need a new netting by then but the way it has worn so far...probably not!

Another one for the Beckman. Great net, love that extendable handle as well as the actual net. I've got a big salmon series one as well as one for the walleyes. Keep up the great work. Buy one, you won't regret it. Hutch

Another Beckman vote about $90.00 but one strong useable net. It should outlive me.

The best nets that I have used are the Beckman Nets. They are rubber coated so the hooks stay free. I use the pro model!

Does anyone know what's going on with the Beckman Net website?
I found it on a search and am putting in the web address of
www.beckmanet.com . It goes to that address and immediately switches
to Ebay! I have no use for Ebay, I want to check out the nets. If someone knows their correct address please let me know.

The website is www.beckmannet.com In my opinion, loki nets are the best for the money. You can buy 3 loki's for the price of one beckman and I like the loki just as well if not better than a beckman, so for me, my $30 rubbercoated loki works just fine.

ditto to that ... and mine is 3 years old also.

You don't even need to try them. All you have to do is look at them and it's easy to see that the Beckman is by far the best bag.
good luck.
