I have a Yamaha F115. I changed the fuel/water separator this weekend and I can't seem to get it to primed. Pumped until I couldn't anymore and am not sure what I'm doing wrong. Is it possible that there isn't enough fuel in the tank to prime and fill the filter? Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks,
Nick

I had the exact same problem. I removed my filter and filled it up with gas.

Reinstalled it and it primed right up!

That actually crossed my mind, but I was just going to pour the gas from the old filter in and decided against it. I'll give it a try. Thanks

In addition to the required primer bulb between the separator and engine I installed a primer bulb between the fuel tank and separator and this arrangement works great. The problem with removing the bowl on the separator and filling the bowl with gas on many separators (ie. Racor) is that if the gasket has ever been exposed to gas it swells and you can't reassemble the separator until the gas on the gasket evaporates and the gasket shrinks back to normal size. I have been there and done that.

A couple of ways to fix it... but, in our case, we put a primer bulb ahead of and behind the fuel water seperater.
Even if you are feeding 2 engines off the seperater:
Then you'd have a bulb between the fuel tank and the seperater -- plus one to each motor between seperater and motor.

How often should a person change that water/fuel filter

I change mine yearly. Cheap insurance. I fill new filter with fresh gas before installing.
