View Full Version : Question about Navionics Premium chip

Have a quick question for those of you with the Navionics Premium 2009 chip (North Region). I bought the chip to go in a Lowrance 522 at the bow of my boat. I have a Humminbird 798 in the stern with the 2006 internal Navionics mapping (NVB).

My issue is that I fish the St. Croix river quite a bit between Stillwater and Osceola. On the internal general mapping on the 522 this area of the river is a simple, blue representation of the river with the general outline of the river. The NVB on the Humminbird has about the same. However, when I put in the 2009 Navionics chip (into either the Humminbird or the Lowrance), this entire area of the river disappears. There are a few "ponds" of water here and there, but it is as if the entire river from just south of Osceola to just north of Stillwater does not exist. I don't get it. The internal NVB has 2006 data and at least has the general outline of the river. I know that there will be no depth contouring in the area I am talking about, but it is still nice to see the outline of the river and then add all of my "hard-earned" waypoints onto the map. I would have thought that the 2009 chip would be the same as the 2006 mapping for this area.

Am I doing something wrong with the 2009 chip, or is it true that the new chip blanks out this area of the St. Croix? I know that I can just choose to use the internal mapping from the Lowrance or go back to my '05 Lakemaster chip. I just wanted to make sure that this was not "operator error" on my part. I do love the 1" contours on some of the other lakes that I fish, so this is not meant to be crabbing on the chip.

Thanks for any assistance.

If the outline does not show up, there are either two solutions. The river is not on the chip, which I doubt, or you have to go into the menu and select which region you want to use for the chip. I know that premium chip has like 5 states on it, so go into the menu options and select which region you are in. I have run into this before also, along with many others.

Not unusual. I have Navionics Patinum and have seen the same issue.

Make sure you have specified which map to load on the Navionics chart.

On your Lowrance unit:
*Menu
*Map Data
*Navionics Map Choice
*SEMN

On my 2008 Navionics Premium North chart, the St. Croix is surveyed in HD 1' contours to just north of Stillwater. Above that, there is a shore outline.

I should have my 2009 Navionics mapping products soon to see if they have changed anything.

I will try again, but I think I did select the SEMN map. That might have been when I received a very distorted representation of the river (very sharp angles and very narrow - it was definitely NOT a general outline of the river). It was absolutely unusable - much worse than the basic background map option. If any one has the 2009 chip I would really appreciate it if you could try to find the St. Croix river on that chip. It will have the HD contouring for the Stillwater, MN area, but then follow it north and see if you continue to see at least a general outline of the river all the way up to Osceola. I would really appreciate the help.

Thanks everyone.

I'm pretty sure that the St. Croix is another area on the card, Pool 4 is SEMN. I think it is central or east central..

Good idea. I was fishing lakes in Alexandria and figured that would be northern MN on a 2006 chip, but that is still southern MN? Try different areas to see what you find.

I appreciate the suggestions, but I still can't fix the issue. I posted more specifics on what I am experiencing under the post "Question for Wade." I thought he might have heard about similar issues from other people. I did email my issue directly to Navionics. I will let you know what I hear back.

Thanks all.
