I own several Berkley Series One Rods purchased over the last 5 years and recently came across a 1980's model Spinning rod back when they had the foam handle with the small butt at the bottom. Anyone still using these? Rod has a great feel to it..If I remember these were one of the best of the 80's

I use a Berkely Lightning Rod (spinning) that I purchased in 1984 or 1985. It is the most sensitive rod I have ever used for jigging and love it. I bought a little longer version just a week ago and I hope I like it just as much.

I've been using mine for so long I can't remember when I got it. It is definitely a nice rod.

I have a Berkley Series One baitcasting rod from the 80's that I still use. The first time I picked it up I knew it was taking me home.

I have a long story about these rods.

I too still use a 7' Med Light series one that I bought in 1990. Used it mainly for rigging. The little handle reel seat ended up breaking and I had to tape my reels on. I then retired it about 1997 and put it in the rafters with all the other old rods. I bought several other rigging rods to replace it over the years, none of which ever felt the same. Two years ago, I came across that rod again while cleaning up.

I figured I would see if I could do something with the handle. I took a chance and put the heat gun to the handle, the glue melted and handle slid right off with no damage. Went on the Internet and bought a Loomis handle kit, installed it and now it's back in business. It is now my rigging rod again !

These were/ are great rods. I wish Berkley never changed them. I have tried Series Ones again over the years but the new ones have never came close to the old ones in my opinion.

Same with the Lightning Rod Pro Series. I have the "Buzz Ramsey" models for Walleye fishing and Berkley changed and ruined those as well. Unfortunately, I am no longer purchasing Berkley rods and switched to St Croix.

Yup, I have a three of the originals, 1 spinning and 2 baitcast. The new ones aren't too bad either, I think they compare well with Fenwick HMG.

I still have mine and its still used often as my favorite jigging rod (5.5 footer). I love it and look at all garage sales for more of the same style, but I think guys that still are well aware of what they have. It is "my" first rod purchased for just me when I was 6 or so. Man that thing has to be at least 25 years old or so with original guides, never broken, and foam still in good shape.
