Detroit River Update March 31 2009

ok boys..well we went out tonight around 5:30pm (a little later honestly) and the fish are starting to hit!!! we boated 3 nice ones, 2 males and one big female which we released to spawn. I saw at least 12 fish caught in the other 10 boats that were out at the same time. Fishing along the USA side close up to shore between 20-40 feet deep. We were only out for about 2 hours, but things are starting to heat up!!!

btw...i picked up a Pflueger President reel today and also an Okuma spinning reel. both are very nice...and thankfully i FINALLY got my first walleye of the year after 3 tries out. we are going back out again tomorrow evening.

Get out there and FISH!!!

Thanks for the post - can you narrow down your position - I hear of a few fish south of the stacks, but I like the North end better......save jig $

we are all pretty much fishing just east of fighting island on the USA side along the break walls etc...near USA STEEL COMPANY and drifting west. most fish were caught along that area....but i'm sure they are moving in everywhere.

water visibility is getting better, around 4-5 feet. i got a hit on yellow/white with a yellow jig, but got my fish on a purple jig w/ black/silver berkley gulp 4" minnow

i hope that helps. dark colours seem to be working best right now.

well, we went out again last night, it was cold...windy and the fish were not biting. we snagged one female and released her to spawn...only saw a couple other fish caught. same area in the river
