i think i'm getting close to buying a new boat...think i want a 150 on a 20 ft tin boat...i know a marina very well who bring their pets in and i consider them good mechanics and friends...problem is they only service evinrude/johnson and not e-tech.......they are very good at what they do service and i can beg and they will have me back on the water quickly....we have a new bass pro but i havent heard anything good or bad about their service dept.....are the johnson 150's a good motor comparing to honda/mercs?.....i want one of those three motors on my boat...still not certain about 4 or 2 stroke...my most important thing is not speed but reliability.....i use a 10 hp kicker for trolling and elec out front....thanks for any input...steve

I would suggest that you talk frankly with them. Ask them what motor they recommend for you.
You might be surprised.

I would check out Calumet Marine, they have been a Johnson/Evinrude dealer for over 50 years and do service the ETECs and sell Hondas as well. They are about 30 min of so from portage but are very good at what they do.

my problem with calumet marine is they never reply to my inquiries.....i e-mailed them several times, finally called them and asked why no response and whoever i spoke to said he would check e-mail that nite, nothing for a week, then i called the marina last saturday and nobody answered the phone...i read that they are open until 5 pm on saturdays and it was 3pm...maybe they are listing summer hours i thought...so i left a message that we wanted to come look at hewscraft boats....no response mon/tues and wed....finally we got a phone message ...so i am sort of spooked that this marina has poor service...i called several charter boat buddies to see if calumet marine is poor service but they didnt know and had never heard anything negative....i guess i keep thinkin that if they seem impossible to contact when i want to purchase a mid 30 boat, God help me if i bought the boat and had a problem.....but maybe i'm being judgmental but it still seems weird in this day of economic "hardships"...steve

They are probably so busy delivering new boats that they just don't have time to take phone calls or get on a computer. That and hauling the cash from the sales to the bank.

There hasn't been an engine with "Johnson" on it for several years.
I would approach the marina that you know and tell them what you are looking for. I take it you are buying new, so tell them that you want the lastest and best technoligy out to date. they should be able to respect that, if they say no to that, move on. I'm sure they expect the same service from you.

I have been taking my boat there for years. Never have had any problems and good service. Its a small family place 4 people and i dont think they employ anyone. I dont think i know anyone that has a bad experience at there place. Frank and family do a lot to support the fishing in the area might be worth a second look. But you also can not buy a boat from a place you dont have confidence in. Good luck in your purchase.

After a couple trips to different dealers with my etech I ended up at calumet marine as directed by the district service manager from evienrude
even though i did not buy my boat or motor there I finally got it fixed rite
I wont be tacking it any where else unless i was desperate on vacation or some thing like that
They don't have some one that's there just to answer the phone like the big places but they have always returned my phone calls when i have left a message on the machine many times the calls are returned after i know the store is already closed
I have been in the store at times when they did not answer the phone
when asked if they needed to answer the phone i was told
"more than a couple people in the store at a time, we let the machine answer and we call them back as soon as we can"
I thought this was nice considering i had to wait my turn to be taken care of
If they sold glass multi species boat i would buy my next one from them . They sure put together a nicely rigged salmon boat
THEY CERTAINLY DID A GRETA JOB FOR ME
AND GET MY VOTE FOR THE BEST SERVICE I HAVE EVER HAD FROM A BOAT DEALER BIG OR SMALL
