Looking to spend roughly $500 give or take on a new finder and looking for opinions. Any real advantage in the actual sonar between these two models? The Lowrance X510 seems to have favorable reviews and I already have a garmin handheld for gps and mapping use, but that would also entail carrying another electronic piece with me. The Hbird would make a nice all in one unit assuming the sonar was equal to the Lowrance. I normally fish in a river system and lakes at water depths less than 40'. There is just way too many options out there and hard to narrow a search down. I know you have to realize what you need in a sonar unit but like everyone I want it all, but have to justify. I guess in my case the sonar is the most important part (shallow water), and the gps would be nice (convenient) but not necessary. I would really appreciate any input. Thanks

You just cant beat the 520 or 522 for the price right now. Both are combo units.

The BEST sonar only unit in your price range would be the new Lowrance HDS-5X. The digital, BroadBand signal is amazingly good in rivers. If you decide you want GPS too, then look at the Lowrance LMS-520 or LMS-522 with the internal antenna, or save your pennies for an HDS-5 (w/GPS).
