last year i bought a new 2006 mercury 250 xs and it has 40 hours on it and i need to replace the powerhead. the #4 cylindar has no compression and also the #2 and #6 has poor compression. has anyone else had this problem? and if so how long does it take to replace the powerhead? thanks for any info.

Better to ask Mercury that question. You should have a warranty. Any power head can usually be replaced in less than a day if the dealer has it.

I do not own a Mercury motor but this is the first post I have scene on an 250xs Pro with a bad powerhead. The motor seem to have a good track record overall, so let us know if the dealer can tell why it failed.............

Is it the 'XS' or the 'ProXS'?

Be glad it is under warranty. The Pro XS models are built on the Opti Line, and if in stick can be replaced in about 1-2 hours. The XS racing motor is build by hand at the racing division, and yes they probably have to build you a new one. How long that could take I couln't tell you. But once the dealer gets it in stock, it can be installed in a day or so.

Had a mercury 250 xs crankshaft twisted in half at 211 hours out of warranty but mercury sent me a new power head at no charge
