Well after a little detour and some lost time we made it into new london. Didnt see any crowds so headed to Shiocton where it was a zoo! It was well worth the ride as my two sons got up close and personal with several sturgeon. They were amazed and so was I. The biggest looked to be around 130 pounds I would guess and we saw two tagged fish and probably a total of 50 fish, some of which could have been the same. I heard someone say that the dnr pulled a 230 pounder out earlier in the day. Dont know if that is true or not. At any rate thanks for the cam, had it not been for this I would have never known the day to go. The only thing I have to do now is correct my five year old into calling them sturgeons instead of sharks.

the walleye cam got moved so its either in the rocks or flowing down stream
thats probably why its black

Prior to the walleye run someone said when the walleyes go back down river they do so backwards. Out of all the walleye I saw returning down river I never saw one float by faceing up river. Where did that come from??

Hello Everyone,
I want to put up a place for everyone to go to talk about the live underwater fish camera. The camera is located in Shiocton, WI. Currently it runs from dawn to dusk until we are satisfied with our lighting, then we can run it at night. Enjoy! Please leave you comments and what you have seen on the camera. Walleye Central has played an important role in helping make this happen. I will be checking the thread quite often.
Thank you,
Gary - WRC :muahaha:

I think a couple of people spoke of this. Remember, this fish come down the deep side because of the faster current, and from what I know, they come down backwards for the most part. The camera is on the shallow side, so I don't think you will see them do that.

I assure you, the camera is not pointed up. What you see is light reflecting down into the water. The camera is actually pointed down a little. Also, check the walleye cam because the white bass have been moving. The strugeon have slowed because the last couple of days the weather has been bad. Now the sun is out, they will start turning on again.

To capture a picture, once you see what you want captured on your keyboard ususally on top is a button labeled (print screen)...it will capture whatever is on the screen at the time you push it.
Once you push it you need to paste that to some type of photo program. I use paint shop pro 8.

Watch the video in full screen, and when you see something on screen that you want to "take a picture of" do this:
1. Hit the pause button.
2. Press the shift key and the Prnt Scrn key at the same time. (The Prnt Scrn key is usually at the top right side of the keyboard on most puters.)
3. Click the "Start" button in the bottom left corner.
4. Choose "All Programs"...."Accessories"...."Paint"
5. When the MS Paint program opens click on "Edit"...then click on "Paste". The picture should be in your Paint Program now...Resize to 350 pixels Wide by....it should do the height automatically. (To change the size in Paint...click on "Image" and then "stretch/skew"...reduce it to 50% both horizontally and vertically.)
6. Click on "File"...."Save As"....and save it to a folder on your computer....(that's up to you)
7. Open the Wolf River Cam thread on Walleye Central and hit Reply.
8. After you put your message in...(and, you must be logged in to do the rest of this...) scroll down below the message window and click on "manage attachments".
9. When the second window opens, click on "browse" and find the picture you saved to the folder on your computer and click "open".
10. Click "Upload".
When the progress bar in the manage attachment window finishes and you see the .jpg name listed below the "browse" section, you know it's been uploaded completely.
Note: If your picture is too big it will not upload to the site.
If you still have trouble...give a shout and we'll work you through it. :)

wolf cam,
Sorry I didn't think it was a silly question. The web is full of "do it yourself" underwater camera setups...some are cabled, some are wireless. I really have no idea how far you are from your camera.
I've got an old laptop and found a plan for building a waterproof case for a very cheap camera. This might be fun as an alternative to an expensive fish camera.

Thanks. I was curious because I used to fish the Lake Cumberland tail water in KY for trout and walleye. When they would open the generators, the water temps would drop 10 - 15 degrees.
Thanks again. This camera is great. Just love watching the fish, when I should be working.

I was just trying to be funny. It is quite a distance from the camera to the laptop. Wireless seems like it doesn't have the quality that wired does. I definitely think building the camera would work. There are plans out on the web that show you how to do it, but I believe you have to pay for them (but are inexpensive). I think if you would get some pvc pipe, and a board camera, you could do it. It would be a higher difficulty, so let us know how it wokrs. If you get it running, I will link it to my site!

It is not rigged with a hook. Don't want my local Conservation Officer stopping to help me understand the law. However, it's not like it is being unattended.....there are x amount of viewers watching! Oh, the 30lb steel leader, is for the Northern. I might consider a smaller leader tomorrow, which is when I will change the lure. I am thinking a little rooster tail. Oh by all means, I would be pretty fired up if someone got a screen capture of a strike on the bait....that would be crazy.

Cool! Awesome! I did make a courtesy call the the local conservation warden this morning to tell him that I took the hooks off the lure in front of the camera. He said that he figured we did as such. He had a call yesterday, with someone telling him there was a lure there, but he figured we were doing it legally. What can I say, I must have an honest face

Dang it! I will get it up soon. The problem with it going off air is a wireless signal issue, and my wife stopped at the store and picked up the cure. Tomorrow morning, when we put out the next lure, it will be rock solid. However, rumor has it the Fremont cam is running! It was pretty black, but I could see a temperature. So maybe it is a matter of adjusting...or moving a boat.

Hey Gary: A 'shout out' from Evan. What a small world. I had the 'opportunity' to fish the Trout Opener "nort of 8" with him, and he told me he has worked with you on the Cam project. What I will tell you is that we are going to build our own cameras and they will be ones bought from Supercircuits. I will give the info when we get one done. I was just going to post a heads up, but you beat me to it. The Fremont cam is up and running! The water looks pretty murky and dark, but that is due to the camera having to be so deep in the water. It is probably in 8 feet of water, where the other are in about 6. I have it sitting right next to a little backwater, which must be a hang out for the fish, because they are up close and personal. In the limited time of viewing, I have seen smallies, bluegill and white bass. Post those screen captures everyone!

The Fremont cam is going through the typical growing pains like the other cameras had. What was a power issue before, is now fixed and then spawned an internet issue. It is particularly challenging trying to run these cameras 24/7 and upload the amount of content we do steady. It would be like sending emails back to back around the clock. Sometimes there is a hiccup and that's when the feed breaks. Then things have to restarted and so forth. It's just the nature of the beast. Thank goodness we have some people that are dedicated to keeping things running, while I am off at work. It's challenging, but worth it I think. Fremont cam will be back up soon, please be patient and always....thanks for watching.

The Fremont cam is in very deep water, and is pretty cloudy. Recently, we had to move it off the bottom to be able to get sunlight to it. So it looks like it is looking up, but really it is look horizontal. We were a little limited on how we were able to position it, but when the water goes down a little, it can be moved back toward the bottom. Thanks for viewing.
By the way, Fremont 2 will be in on Saturday the 23rd, followed by the New London cam shortly after.

Hi Everyone,
On July 31st @ 7am, Jeff Kolodzinski will be trying to set the record for the most fish landed in 24 hours. The current record, 1,680, which Jeff holds as well.
Now, the really cool thing.......we will be streaming the event. If everything works well, and it should, I will have an underwater camera watching the fish take Kolo's bait and then a camera that will show his reaction and pulling them in, all in sync. The video panes will be side by side on 1 webpage. The location of that live video will be at my other site, www.livefishcamera.com (http://www.livefishcamera.com) Check it out. As always, I will be checking this message board during the event and replying to any questions. Hopefully by the first of the year, Wolf River Cam will be in full color! We are working out the details right now, and have 1 camera in color on Shiocton 1. I don't think we will be using that same kind of camera, but rather one that is available at your local store. More details to follow. Thanks again for watching and we are excited for this coming year. After we go to color, then the only thing left is to increase the video definition. Can you imagine walleyes in HD? Hi Everyone,
We did a test run on Saturday the 12th. Our broadcast ran for 3.5 hours out on the ice, where we were showing our Live Fishing Show. That's right, live...not video, or editted. Of course it was a little boring because the first ice wasn't productive, but we were testing more than anything. Once we get our audio worked out, we will be doing more shows building up to spring time for the walleye run. Then I might run every morning when I fish.
The next date should be this weekend. I will keep you posted. Remember, you heard it here first!
Thank you again Walleye Central for your support.

Well, we have our audio straightened out and what is neat is that it is very sensative. Our next live show will be on Sunday January 3rd @ 9am central time. Anyway, I am doing some heavy scouting and hopefully will get into some nice fish. Hi Everyone,
I want to get a few updates out, as we close ever so closer to big fish action.
1) I have spent a little dough and time in updating our computers. Actually, I just bought some new ones. You should be able to enlarge the video to full screen and the picture will be much better than last year. Or you could hook it up to your flat tv.
2) We have added cameras since last year. Currently we have 2 Shiocton cams, 1 in New London and 1 in Fremont. The Fremont one is very deep and dark right now, so we are running one above water temporarily.
3) There is a color camera in Shiocton.
4) Our Quad 4x4 camera will be running soon! Imagine to be able to look in for directions!
Take care,

Hi Folks,
I was talking to some people at the Fishing Show in Green Bay last weekend and everyone asked when would the walleyes be heading up stream. I said that I thought it would have been by now, but we haven't had that real warm day yet. Well the last few days around here have been in the 40s and rain on a couple. My thought was once the water temp went from the steady 31F to 32F/33F, then they might get motivated to go.
At 2:15 cst, I flipped on the AquaVu Quad 4x4 that we have in Shiocton and I saw a fish swimming a little ways out in front of the camera that points to the middle of the river and upstream (top right view as you are looking at it). Since I don't have a screen capture to prove it, I will just highten everyone's awareness. To me, it looked as the fish had white tipped bottom fins and it certainly was a game fish.
I flipped over to the New London page and the temp was 32F......

There is no one that wants the cameras in the water more than me. However, if we have them in and the sheets of ice coming down the river that weigh many tons, they will sweep the cameras away. Not that there would be no more cameras, it's just I would have to replace them at the tune of $400-$600 per location. Last year the first camera was launched on March 28th, so we will be in the water in plenty of time. I would think by the 18th, we will be running at the normal locations like last year plus we will have at least New London, Fremont and Shiocton 2 to start the year off. Last year Shiocton 1 was the only camera location we had.
Recently we had an offer for Shiocton 3. Once we get our resources together, that one might go live. We also still have Winneconne in the works.
Once we get everything in the water a running well, look for the LIVE FISHING SHOW!
Thank you for being patient and definitely I want to thank everyone for watching.

The ice went out mid day yesterday and we usually give it at least a couple days for the upper ice and bayous to clear out. However, with the great weather we are having, I am going to get them launched today! I have to launch a couple of rafts first, then I can set up the wireless and game on. Shiocton 1 will definitely be online today and very possibly Shiocton 2 and New London. Fremont needs a lens cleaning from being in all winter, but it is still hooked up, just not live right now.
The time is almost here. In 30 minutes, I will be heading to the river to work on them.
