I found that the XOG is discontinued...explains the sale price at Cabelas.
Any suggestions on a unit ? I don't need much...( 12 volt) ..just enough to save waypoints & find my way back to the dock. Pre-loaded ( chip)
maps would be a luxury option.
THX !

The XOG is a lot of unit for the money, if you can get past the "weather-resistant" vs. "water-proof" concern for using it in your boat. Battery life from the internal rechargeable battery is another concern, although dimming the screen will really extend the battery life.
Still hard to beat the H2Oc with a map card in it though ......

I'm dumber than a stump on this stuff.
That unit looks OK....
What chip(s) do I order for NY,PA & Ontario.??
Can waypoints then be saved on those chips ?
Thanks for your input.

If you can find one, consider a Magellan Crossover 2500. Doubles as an auto AND marine GPS unit.
I live in NW PA and purchased marine charts for PA and Canada for $50 each. You should be able to find a closeout unit for $150 or less. The unit also has built in background maps; the maps you purchase add more details, contours, etc...
I imagine the XOG offers similar maps, but just make sure you know the map cost in advance. I know the Magellan charts are $50.
Frosty,
Waypoints can be saved on any of the new GPS units.
No, the waypoints are not saved on the lake chips. The waypoints are saved in the internal memory.
So, if you take the chip out of the gps, the waypoint will still be there.
Get the chip for the lakes that you fish. Find one that covers the areas that you normally frequent.
If you use the gps on the lake, it is nice to have it waterproof, not water resistant. Also, if you are going to use it on a boat - for navigating, it is nice to have a large unit. If you are bouncing across the lake, it is tough to see a small screen.
Take care
