the previous post brought up a "pet peeve" of mine with the navionics chips and that is the difficulty in locating lakes on the chips. lakes that I think should be in northern minnesota are in southern, and so on. can't they publish a list of the areas so that we can be better informed? Sorry for the venting!!

Let me add to the vent also. I live in ILL. I mainly fish Ill, Wis, and MN. Look at a map, Ill is directly below Wis. Yet, Navionics lists ILL on its EAST chip. What kind of sense does that make. I complained to them a few years ago, and they told me there was not enough room on the chip. What a load of cRAP is that?

To answer both of the above questions in one message:
I am guessing you are running a Lowrance, Mr Ducks, correct? It is a function of how the hardware reads the chart more than anything. If you were running it in a Humminbird, Raymarine it would show the whole chart without any zones. We cannot control how the hardware is programmed to read a chart as we do not build the hardware. In fact, we wish these units would read the whole chart at one time as it would save Navionics Customer Service a lot of calls.

Ffishman, I wish it was as easy as just dropping the state of Illinois into the north chart, but it is not that easy. There is just so much data that can be burned onto a chart and still be read by all the plotters due to processor speeds. We are attempting to put Illinois on both the East and the North chart, but we have to wait until various factors, including processor speed of various OEM plotters catch up to the amount of data we can put on a charft, how much room we can get on a chart, and other more detailed programming issues that I do not fully comprehend myself. Suffice it to say if we could, we would, becuse you are not the only one bringing this issue up. I for one have with our engineers, but at least this year we could not.

I know this doesn't help either of you, but it is not as easy as one would hope.

That said, the new Lowrance HDS series will not have the issue with zones, at least that is what I have been informed at this time.

Larry Thank you for explaining the problem and answering my frustration! You are correct I do run Lowrance and I agree with you it is a Lowrance problem not a Mavionics one. I have also had Humminbirds and it is not a problem with their equipment.
Curious will the new Lowrance HDS units still experience this issue or have they solved it?
Thanks again!

You guy's should be happy, At least where you fish is on elec charts. Here in Manitoba Navionics has done nothing for us since they started this. It's always Ont that gets the attention. Up here we still go by Paper maps.
