Sonny did the right thing. Hardly any fisherman were on fish. I was there starting Monday 3/30/09. Got to fish a half day on Tuesday(blown off the water), got to fish a half day on Wednesday(blown off the water), Thursday trolled for 6 hours nothing. Water was muddy, stained and churned up. Finally boated 3 fish jigging late thursday afternoon. Did not even try to go Friday, although some did for a couple of hours. The main conversation with fisherman if the weather had be decent on Saturday there would not have been many fish brought in.

Thanks again Sonny for making the safest and wisest decision.

OK, so it's the "tour" on the 15th, not the league? Guess I'm new to this FLW stuff, didn't realize there's a difference.....

I hope Sonny takes that as a wake up call and realizes hat he is planning these way too early.

I thought the Erie league event could of been perfect for a big bite...to bad mother nature had diffrent plans. I was happy they made the right call to re-schedule. Will have to wait and see were the location will be but they did say they thought the re-schedule would be late July or sometime in August. They said it will probable not be Port Clinton because during those times accomodation cost goes thru the roof. I still hope they reconsider and have it out of Port Clinton anyway. Seemed to me there was enough low cost places to stay and the fishing might not be at peak but still good.

One thing for sure is the Michigan League needs to find a way to get more folks engaged. Times are tough but if we hope to have the league next year the numbers need to be stronger.

Why? They've been running tournaments at the end of March and early April since 2003, and this is the first one that got cancelled and will be rescheduled.

I don't think that's a "wake up call". Sure, the majority of the other early tournaments were held on the Detroit River...so, if anything, maybe they should just keep the early tournaments over there, where even if the wind blows, there's a good chance that the tournament can still be held.

I remember fishing out of Port Clinton on Erie in April of 2001 and it was 80 degrees and sunny with light and variable winds....go figure.

No one can predict the weather a half a year in advance. No one.

You are correct, no one can predict the weather, but what you can predict is that on April 4th. Most fishermen in Michigan (we are talking about the Michigan league) have not even got their boats out of storage yet. And in a division where they are trying to get NEW competitors, I would think that they would like to get some of those fishermen who's boats are still wrapped up.

Face it, the current pool of tournament anglers in Michigan seems to be getting smaller, yes?
If the FLW is going to attract new blood, don't you think that it would be a good idea to schedule tournaments when more people are thinking about fishing? Heck, many in the northern part of the state are hoping for "one more ride" on their skidoo, and shoveling their drive ways.

Just because the weather is warm in PC, don't assume it is warm in the GWN.

Pat Sonny on the back all you want, I won't deny that he and his crew put on a first rate show, but you can not deny that one area that he has failed in is growing the Michigan division.

So you see Jules it is not about weather, it is about planning a tournament when people are not ready to fish, and that can be predicted.

Peace.

Sorry to hear about this event getting cancelled, but ever since global warming seems to have quit an early schedule Erie event is a dicey prospect at best. The lake looks like chocolate milk on the sat imagery, yuck! Finding different schools of fish is a lot more fun that trying to find clean water which may or may not have any fish.

A late July early August tourney on Burt and Mullet lakes in Northern LP would be a good "MIchigan," replacement for this one, or there is always the hottest bite of the season on Saginaw Bay/Lake Huron in early July to consider.

Part of tourney fishing that keeps us coming back is a good bite and having fun. Makes no sense to gamble with weather, when already gambling with a lot of money and time invested. If we don't win at least we had fun catching fish in the process. Another point to consider...

At the rules meeting...Sonny said it would probably be rescheduled to Saginaw Bay in July or August.
