Ok, I have spent the last few days reading prop posts and feel like I know what I may be talking about. but still hoping to float this by for you input... or someone that has the same set up.
Just got a 02 Lund angler 1700ss with a yammaha F115. Top speed WOT seems good at about 40-41 GPS with two guys and gear. RPM's about 5700. Pretty happy here.
I would like to improve my hole shot and blowout when trimmed up at WOT. It also seemed like my bow lift could have been better getting more speed?
Mostly I plan to do fishing but pulling the kiddies on a tube will probably happen now and then.
Current prop is standard white aluminum 12 5/8" diameter 21p.
From reading it seems like maybe a 19p SS will give me what I'm looking for? any input would be great. I may just go to a dealer that will let me trial props as this seems to be the best test, but figure I would ask.
Thanks for the help! you guys are great!

should of mentioned it's mounted 2nd hole from top.
Also... my expierence is that as I trim up I should be able to shoot a rooster tail, but this set up I start to blow out and loose speed prior to doing this... is this ok?

Fisher, I added the words "prop help" to your title. Sometimes this helps members notice your post, based on the information you're looking for.

The yamaha props are well known for what your talking about, they are fast and git your rpms up, but they have little to no cupping, thus allowing it to ventilate. I recommend the powertech r series in a 19 pitch and you'll think you have a totally different boat. You'll be able to take corners, trim the motor up better holeshot, better fuel economy, and faster top end speed.

I have a similiar set-up to yours, 17ft Mr.Pike 115 Yammie. I have the yamaha stock 17p and the Yamaha pro series 19p SS. I actually went as far as too put a manual jackplate on my boat. The 17p aluminum for my boat is probably the better all around prop. I find that the 19p might be too much prop and like the previous poster suggested, the cupping, even on the pro series props from yamaha could probably be more aggressive. I can't raise my engine enough to keep the RPM's in the 5700 to 6000 range and still prevent blowout. with more cupping this may be possible. You will definitely need substantial cupping to lift that bow more but you must realize that engine has it's limits. I actually get more top speed from the aluminum prop and a better whole shot. The stainless is a heavy prop and with the higher pitch it takes the f115 a little longer to wind her up. At least that is how it feels to me. 40-41mph on that rig is actually pretty good. i'd be very curious to hear if and how you can improve on that. Good luck. By the way the jackplate helps a little but not sure if it's worth the expense for this type of rig.

Fisher,
I have a 2002 1700 Lund Angler SS with a F115 Yamaha. I started out with a stock aluminum 19P that ran in the proper RPM range at WOT. 58-5900 rpm. I wanted to try out stainless. I bought a 19P Michigan Wheel "Ballistic" in 19P. RPM's were 55-5600, too low. I bought a 17P "Ballistic". This prop has been perfect. At WOT and trimmed out I'm at 5900 +/- 100 rpm. Vast improvement from aluminum in hole-shot and bow lift. I can also corner better without having to trim down as much. I can only speak for myself but I don't believe you can be fully trimmed out at WOT and try to carve a sharp turn without some slip and blowout on any prop. When I want to turn hard at WOT I always trim down a bit just before entering the turn.
I was considering a 19P Yamaha Pro Series which will also work but are very expensive. I was going to pull the trigger on a 4-blade 16P Powertech but I found a great deal on the 17P Ballistic. For the money, I think it is an excellent prop. I too pull the kids around a few times a year and have noticed it is vastly superior to my aluminum. (Which sucked!) I would think you would want to stay in the 17P range for a 3-blade unless you opt for the 19P Yamaha Pro-Series. This prop is different from the Yamaha black stainless props. The black would also be best for us in a 17P. Lot's of threads on props for F115 and our boats... do a search.
You have a nice boat and motor! I love my Angler and have had no issues with the F115 at all in 7 years.
Good Luck!

[QUOTE=Spallgard;1094953]Fisher,
... This prop has been perfect....QUOTE]
Thanks for the info.. this is exactly the feedback I was looking for.
a few follow up questions for you
-what is your top speeds with the 17P?
-can you quantify fuel economy?
I have a T-8 kicker but that should not make significant difference.... I was also suprised to find the boat had 32 gal tank...that's a load in itself!
Thanks again for the help.... I love this site!

Fisher,
I haven't really paid much attention to fuel economy. I'm a Musky guy and spend most of my time on the electric when fishing.
I get between 42 and 44 mph (GPS) consistently with a normal load and 3/4 tank of gas.
I noticed you said you have T-8 kicker. Do you tiller steer it or hook it to the big motor and steer from console?

I tiller steer. it has the electric trim which is great. I just got the boat and only had it out 6 times or so. I really wanted to hook the T8 up so I could steer and throttle from the helm but I can't justify what seems to be 500-700 clams. I may just get an extension on it and call it good. It's on the starboard side and I'm thinking of moving it to port side...my cranking battery is also on the starboard side and the boat rides un even at very low speed (loading on trailer) with my fat bottom driving.

When I had my Mr Pike 17 with F115 Pro Series Yamaha 19p, 3rd hole up, want it to really make that prop rock, send it to DAH prop. That was the best prop out of the 10 or so I tried

I ended up going with a 17p Powertech ss prop.
Went to trial it against my aluminum prop, but once on the water I didn't want to go back to swap with the aluminum... I wanted to fish. So I don't have an apples to apples comparison.
But below is what I noticed.
Much better hole shot as expected. Pops right up with a decent load... two guys full live well and full tank. Without just me... rpms at about 5700-5800 trimmed up. The biggest difference was the amount of bit the prop had. I could corner hard without blowing out and not having to trim down. What a difference here. Last but not least... I didn't loose any top end and may have gained a half to one mph.
Thanks to everyone for thier help.. It was worth the money!

I to have been playing the prop game this spring. I have a 2008 Alumacraft Navigator Sport 175 with the dubble bubble set-up. Motors, I have a 08 Yamaha F-115 and a F-6. Rig came with a 19 pitch Yamaha black steel and rpms with me alone (225 lbs) right at 6150 (rev limiter). Tried a 19 pitch Trophy Plus and the performance was good 41 mph but the rpms were below 5600. Tried a 17 pitch Trophy Plus and the performance was awesome, top end at 41 mph and rpms by myself were 5950. Put two buddies in the boat and rpms dropped to 5500, too low for me. Ricky Besmehn over at Brainerd Propeller (218)-824-0000 recomended a 17 pitch Power Tech and it is an awesome prop. Rpms by myself at 6100 and speed between 42-43. With two people the boat 6100 rpms and 42 mph. I have talked to Ricky and am going to try an 18 pitch Power Tech. Based on what Ive experienced with the 17 pitch Power Tech I believe I will be dialed in. I would like my loaded rpms to be about 5900-5950. Hope some of this info is helpful. My motor is mounted one hole up. If one has experience going two holes up on this boat let me know what you thought. If anyone is interested in results with the 18 p Power Tech I will have something to share in a couple of weeks. Drop me a line and Ill share my findings. Tight Lines
