I've installed one 520 and one 525 at the helm connected with Ethernet and network connections. Each comes with its own transducer (525 with dual 50/200 Khz transducer) and (520 with single 200Khz transducer). Everythnig is working fine in my garage (haven't been on the water yet).

Both transducers are connected to their respective screens.
Will I be able to use my setup like that (both transducers at the same time) or will I have interference? Both transducers will be mounted on a transducer mounting plate attached to my transom. They'll be about 5" apart from each other.

If this causes interference can I choose to shut of either one of them while leaving the other one working (and vice verse) so both of my two screens can use the sonar data only from the working (for the moment) transducer (since both displays are Ethernet connected)?

I've tried but could not find in the menus where I can shut of only the transducer of either of my two units.
Ideal thing will be to use them both and keep them both connected at all times but if that is not possible at least to be able to chose which one to work and which one not to work without having to physically disconnecting/unplugging them from the back of the display unit.

As always appreciate your kind advice.
Thanks.

The transducers will interfer if you are operating both of them at 200 khz ........ but if you operate the 525c at 50 khz then you won't have interference between them.

To turn one or the other off, go into the sonar menu to 'Stop Chart'. That will stop the signal from going to the transducer for that unit.

Thanks Bud.
If I do the "stop chart" trick that will that unit still be able to "see/show" the sonar data from the other unit's working transducer over the Ethernet?

Thanks.

You will be able to select which transducer to use for each units. Once attached to an ethernet netowrk there is an option on the sonar setup screen to select which transducer will feed the unit, either it's transducer or the other one that appears on the network. The info below is from a post last fall on this topic.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In another thread there was a discussion going on "Sonar Sharing" with Lowrance units that have the Ethernet capability. I looked on the Lowrance web site and found the following:
Lowrance Technical Bulletin No. 20/01-07-08 Sonar Sharing via Ethernet
Sonar Sharing via Ethernet
Lowrance head units that contain a 5-pin Ethernet connector are capable of sharing scrolling sonar data. This feature allows remote head units to view scrolling sonar as well as control sonar functions from another unit’s transducer.
To connect any two Ethernet devices, including head units, only one Ethernet cable is required. To con-nect more than two devices, the Navico Expansion Port is required and each device will need an Ethernet cable connecting it to the expansion port.
Only one transducer is required for multiple display units connected by an Ethernet cable. However, multiple display units connected by an Ethernet cable can share sonar information between two or more transducers.

You can view the full bulletin at:
http://primus.lowrance.com/support/r...pe=5001#Goto17

Please note that you can NOT find this on your sonar menu screen unless the ethernet cable is attached and working AND BOTH units are powered up. Once each unit discovers the other on the ethernet link the Sonar Source menu item appears.

Well as I said before my two units ARE connected with Ethernet cable (and network cable as well for that matter)and I can see they see each other when I go to the NMEA2000/BUS SETUP/Ethernet Diagnostics screen.

But ONLY the 525 has the "transducer type" selection available in the "sonar setup" menu. When I go there it gives me the option to select: "Transducer type", Set Keel offset", "Calibrate water speed", " Reset water distance". And then under "Transducer type" I can select: 50Khz and 200KHz, 50 Khz only, 200Khz only, High Power Array (what ever that means (?!?). Those are all options that I would have if I have just the 525 and nothing else.

Now I have the 520 in the Ethernet connection and don't see it's transducer showing anywhere.

In fact when I go to the same Sonar Setup I don't see the "Transducer type" option at all...it only shows "Set Keel offset", "Calibrate water speed", and " Reset water distance"?!?

So something fishy is going on here I am afraid...
the 525 allows me to select transducer type as described above, but the 520 does not give me that option at all....anyone can help or is it time to call Lowrance?

Thanks.

It may be that they are on different software levels. The sonar sharing was just introduced last summer so you should look at the Lowrance web site and download level 2.4.2 and or make sure it is installed on both units.
