My motor typically starts on one or two turns but a few times a year when I turn the ignition over...I get absolutely nothing. I will try it 8 to 10 times and then out of nowhere it will fire and start again. Is this a short in the Wire harness and should I have it replaced or are they able to fix the problem without replacing the harness?
Need more information on this one.
What kind of moror is it?
Does it not even try to start, does the motor turn over?
Does it turn over and not fire?
Is it possibly fuel supply related?
Why do you think it is the wiring harness?

2002 90HP Yamaha. When I turn the ignition switch...there is no sound at all. Nothing is turning over or firing. I thought it could be a short in the harness only because a few times I raised and lowered the motor (electronically); turned the motor left and right a couple times; moved the control handle back and forth and then turned the ignition switch over and the motor fired. This does not work everytime however.

Most likely, it is the switch in the remote control that prevents cranking the engine if the remote control handle is not in neutral position. Your switch may be misadjusted. If you can get the engine to crank by jiggling the remote control, it may not be worth getting the control adjusted.

Not sure if things are the same as mine is a f75 tiller but I have the same problem once in awhile. With mine it is the contact strip for the nutral safety(as was said) if you move the shifter in and out of gear it fixes it. Problem is some times the prop needs to be turned just a bit so the shifter will go all the way into gear, and that can be a pita. My dealer just bent out the contact strip a bit with his finger ??

Check the ground on your starter too... My 200 did the same thing and the guys at the shop didn't tighten one of the grounds going to the starter so it would only fire when it arched...!!! The prop not being in the right position like said could also be it???
