Just looking to see if any of you guys use this kit on open water fishing.
Something tells me that the 19deg ducer is going to be the better option. Or should I go with the 9 or even 12deg ducer. I know the difference between the three. Just looking on input of pros and cons.
Will be buying one here soon, thanks in advance for the help!

I agree with you, for open water the 19-deg would be a better option than the 9 or the 12

What Vexilar unit do you have? How do you like it?
Sounds like you maybe useing your ice fishing flasher in your boat?
Last summer I bought a Edge II and really like it.
I got a product DVD from Vexilar explaining how their flasher units work with my purchase of the EdgeII.
I`m now somewhat interested in getting a flasher for my boat as well.

I have a FL-18. Since I already have this unit I was gonna use it along side my LMS-332C.
I just wanted to see who else uses one of these units on their boat and what transducer they chose to use.

I think a 19 deg would be the most universal.
Most brands come with a 20 deg transducer.
Heres a short cut to some info.

In my opinion since you already have a Lowrance with a 20 degree cone, why not use your flasher to narrow it down, with say the 12 degree ? That way when you see marks on the FL-18 you will know you are right on top of them. Just like the Edge2 or 3 operates. I am not sure what freqency the FL-18 operates on, but they may interfere with each other.

I run the FL-20 with a shoot through the hull installation, and also with a bow mount as needed. You can hook both to a switch box and with a flick of a switch see front or back, but not both at the same time.
If your primary need is a bow mount installation and dead on pinpoint accuracy is required the narrow beam will do that for you, or opt for a duel beam and be able to switch from 9 to 19 as needed.
You have a lot of flexibility in the Vexilar TK kits as needed. Switching units are sold separately but are very reasonable.
You will be able to tune out other interference from competing sonars with the IR function. The other sonars may have a more difficult time doing this but it usually can be done. The narrow beam will help to eliminate the overlap and cross talk.

So I just bought the high speed transducer 19deg, will be installing it later today. Something just hit me. Will the Loweance 332C's transducer interfer with the Vexilar FL-18's transducer? Maybe I can just hit the interference button on the Vexilar just like when ice fishing with two Vexilar close together. Both will be mounted on the back on a board. Thanks for the input!

Your Vexilar will be able to tune out other cross-talk interference from competing sonars with the aid of the 10 settings of the IR function. The other sonar may experience a bit more difficulty tuning it out, but it usually can be done.
Shallow water under 20' it should not be an issue, deeper than 30' it may pop up on the Lowrance. Hard bottom with irregular shaped objects like rock may cause more problems, lots of variables can influence interference.
Often cycling the Vex into a different IR mode can also help to limit interference to the second unit, if not, you may need to tweak the settings on the Lowrance a bit to get it set. Consult the Interference section in your manual and see what they recommend.
