Got a couple questions for any of you who have used these units, specifically the 8 and 10. Looking at them at the retailer displays it seems that the insight is nothing more than the basemap as far as detail, just added 3 D? The detail doesn't seem any better than the base map models on the insight models. Zoom in and the 3 D disapears? So, if you create a custom map and download it from map create to a chip and put the chip into the unit does it read the chip mapping detail in 3D? or does it stay 2D like the older units? Just wondering if the insight is worth the extra money. I figure I'll still need a map chip for lakes yet anyway right? Thanks.

Here (http://www.lowrance.com/en/HDS-Revolution/High-Definition-Mapping/) is the difference between Insight and base map from the horses mouth. If the lakes you like to fish are among those covered by Lake Insight, then I would spend the extra money and get it. Otherwise, go with the base map. I'd love to be able to overlay some contour lines over an Insight map of the lake I fish. But Canadian lakes are not included, which is why I bought three base map units.
