I just picked up an old pair of handlining reels from my father-in-law. The line on both of the reels looks to be dacron; one of the reels has line that is color-coded, with alternating colors every 15 feet. Is this line worth using, or should I strip it and switch to wire?

Personally, I would change it to 90 lb cable. The other choice is 60 lb, I like the 90 lb because its easier to handle.
I wouldnt use whats on there, you dont know how old it is, it might break on you and ruin your day while your are hauling in Miss piggy...
Are you going to be at the DWF meeting Monday?

Thanks.
Barring something going haywire at work Monday, I will be at the DWF meeting. I was planning on making a post here tomorrow to start organizing a meeting of the walleyecentral.com gang there.
Are you going to be able to go?

Homer, switch it to wire. 90 lb is easier to hold but requires more weight on the end so your line isn't to far back. 60 lb is standard, but i use 45 lb. coated. Personell preference.

Homer, Im still on afternoons, but might be able to go. Not sure yet.
Redbone, Im curious what size weight you are using with 45 lb wire? I use 1 & 1/2 lb. Maybe I should be going with thinner wire. Thanks for any advice. I am always open to better ways of doing things!

I agree with Perchjerker, I also use 90# uncoated wire. It seems to work better than 60# coated. The only time I change the wire is if it gets a kink in it.
