I bought one today, brought it home and played with it. I wasn't too impressed, so I went to return it. I stopped off at a different store and they had Diawas, Okumas and the Tidewaters. After toying around in a side by side at the store, I was convinced I needed to return it.

It felt clunky and I didn't like the way the counter jumped, rather than smoothly rotate around. I think I'm going with the Diawa Sea Line. Anyone have any suggestion on which size for planer boards, 27 or 47?

Keep in mind, I've never used them on the water, they may be great, I just didn't like the way the helt. Incidently, Gander has them for $39.99.

I have 4 lc30's for leadcore, and the reels themselves work good. The drags are the best feature by far, and pretty much the only good feature. The clickers wear out after a year of use, the counters are never accurate and you have to reset them everytime you let them out wich is a real pain. If you are going to spend the money on line-counters, do yourself the favor and buy daiwas, they will last forever and the counters are very accurate. Good luck!

With all the backing that the pros give to the Daiwa/Sealine reels, I ws surprised to see Dave Csanda using the Shakespeare Tidewaters on one of the fishing shows yesterday.

I have the Tidwaters as well as Okumas and Daiwas and I have not had any problems with the Tidewaters whatsoever.

From waht I understand, Shakespeare really stands behind their product. Check this link for more details:

Your right, shakespere does stand behind their products. When a couple of my reels broke I called them and they said If I sent them back they would send me new ones to replace the broken ones. It sounded tempting but I knew the new ones would just break agian.

Go with the SG27LC. They will hold all the line you need for planer board fishing unless you plan on using leadcore for line. They'll also balance on most any trolling style rod much better. The SG47LC is a great reel too, it's just too big for normal walleye uses. If you also plan on double duty for Salmon or Trout in Lake Michigan then think about how much you'd use them for each purpose and get the size you need the most often.

I must have lost something in the translation Slipknot?

If they offered to replace them, how can you say they didn't stand behind them?

I just bought two of the bigger ones for leadcore. Everyone I talked to said the reel was great (drag, etc.) but the counter was suspect. With lead I am not too worried about the counter. For the price it is tough to find anything comparable.
