Wondering if the more detailed map cards are from new surveys, or estimates from previous ? Example 1-3 ft increments on new card, 5-10 ft increments on current.

What company/manufacturer are we talking about? What chip?

Lakemaster chips
Generally speaking, the 1-3 foot lakemaster chips are the result of surveys that are different from the older wider spacing surveys.

p.s.
I have talked to a few of the folks who do contract surveying work for Lakemaster and they told me that this was generally the case.
p.s.
Just give Lakemaster a call, and ask them directly as to the survey date used to make the specific map that you are wanting to purchase.
Take care

Hi,
Nearly every lake that is 1 ft or 3 ft contoured (6 inches on Upper Red) on a LakeMaster digital map is high definition-surveyed by LakeMaster. There are a very few exceptions where DNR data has been enhanced via satellite/aerial images, and converted to 3 ft contours. Check individual lakes on the lake list available at LakeMaster's website: www.lakemap.com to be sure.
