Going to Lac Seul, Hudson Area in early August. Although it is a walleye fishing trip, a few of the guys going have been muskie fishing before and want to take a few rods and lures and spend a little time fishing for them.
Any suggestions and tips on where and what to use at that time of year would be great.

Rollie and Helen's Muskie Shop is great to buy from. Look the stuff up on line and then call them. They walk around with a cell phone and pick out your stuff.
Rods: 7' to 8' Medium Heavy Musky Rod. Don't skimp on this. Stop up to Fishemans Warehouse in Spirit Lake, they have some good Fenwicks and can help you a lot. Line, lures, reels, They know Muskies.
Lures:
Topwater: Top Walker, Awaker, Jackpot
Bucktails: Cowgirl, Copper blade and Black skirt and a Chartreuse/Chartreuse. Show Girl, Silver/Black, Eagle Tail
Glide/Jerk Baits: **** Hound, Squirko, 8" Suick, Wades Wobbler Red/White
Crank Baits: 10" Jake, 8" Depthraider/perch or walleye, Believer/walleye
Reels & Line: Abu Garcia 6500 is good with 65# to 80# Power Pro. line

If the guys want to fish walleyes all day that's great because the best Muskie fishing is the last two hours of daylight. The wind lays down and Muskies get their groove on. Where you see hazard buoys marking rocks on a main travel course back to camp is usually good in the evening. They'll have current, fish, and best of all your not out among a bunch of islands as it gets dark. Going around islands can turn anybody around unless you have a GPS unit.
Have you ever tried bass type scissor spinner baits for walleyes. Give it a try up there. When you see a mud bank washing off leaving a break line -set up in the clear water and cast into the shallow dirty water and bounce it off the bottom with a sweeping touch and go retrieve down the break. You'll be amazed how the walleyes will hit it. Also try the green/brown spinner baits with steel leaders at crick mouths, we hit some 40" Northerns with them. Troll Hot-N-Tots 6 to 12' of water, they work in that river for walleye where you get a long straight mud bank with some current on it. #5 in silver/blue, red lip/gold are good. They're cheaply made but sure catch fish.
You don't need live bait at all.
Muskie is closed till the 3rd sat in june!

When you get to Lost Island ask Basil (GUIDE) if he can give you some hints on good Muskie spots. He is a great guy and if he knows he will share it with you.

Bring a top raider, baby loon. This is a must have up here!! I've been seeing a lot of muskies lately, hopefully it continues the next few weeks.
