recently just moved to Wyoming(Glenrock) and was hoping to gain some information on Glendo. What ramps are best to use and where are they located. Also any general fishing information will help. I have picked the brain of a man at the local sporting good store and was hoping for a little more before I head out. Man at the store said to use the Bennat Mt ramp.

Bennet hill is a good ramp but you have to travel dirt road to get to it. I would put in at Reno or Whiskey Gulch if you want to keep your boat clean.

Reno ramp is a long way on dirt, farther than Bennet Hill. Try Whisky Cove or the Marina. Both very good ramps to get to pn pavement. Reno does not have a dock in the water. The other ramps do. I have never seen a dock in the wtare at Reno.

FWIW, there is almost no dirt road to Reno if you go in thru the same gate that goes to Whiskey gulch, just a little going down to the ramp. You are right about there not being a dock though.

Fishing was pretty slow for 2 days. 1st time on Glendo. What a place. Great lake, water level appears to be just about full up.
We launched out of Whiskey Cove about 12:00 noon on Friday. Spent several hours crusing around and getting to know the lake a little bit.
Weather was cold, a little snow and rain, and wind, except in the afternoon when it got just about dead calm. 32 degrees to about 43 degrees air temps.
Water temps ranged from 45 degrees at Whiskey to 48.5 degrees at the mouth of Muddy Bay and into Red Canyon.
Fished Goose Island for a short time with no bites, then found a spot near Red Canyon that held quite a few fish. Started jigging with 1/8 oz. jigs and 3" Power Grubs and nailed a 25.5" er. Had several other bites with a couple more fish on and lost. Finally nailed a 2nd fish at 24". Left at 5:30 p.m. to head back and meet up with the rest of our group fishing near Whiskey.
Weather was the same the next morning, we all headed back to our spot, and the fish had moved out. Never caught a fish the whole day. Friend of mine had 1 on and lost, but that was about it. Talked to a few people at the ramp with similar results. Seemed like a tough day for many.
This may become my new favorite lake. Can't wait to get back up there, maybe in about 3 weeks. About a 4 hour drive from my house.

You know, I've lived in Colorado for 30 years, fished all over the country and Canada, and this is the first time I've been to Glendo!
And it's only 4 hours from my house!
Too many waters, sooooooooooo little time!
I already love this place!

I guess that I will have to release all my fish at Glendo because I can't seem to catch anything under 18"
I caught six yesterday all over 23 inches!

did they put a slot on Glendo?

There is no slot or min. size at Glendo on Walleye.
6 fish possesion limit.

There needs to be a slot at Glendo....Funny how things have been working there! 3 years ago you couldnt catch many over 21' they were all 15" fish....last year they were all 18" this year all 21"! They need to have a slot from 17-24" and only one over 24". If they would that lake would be insane in 5 years! Everytime we go to Glendo, well any lake for that matter we throw anything 17+" back and keep nothing under 14" it makes it that much more enjoyable too! I wish every angler would practice this method....it really makes me mad seeing guys coming in with 10" fish and then they have one 25"!
They don't need a slot at Glendo. That lake has been producing good numbers of fish for years even with increased fishing pressure. Why fix it if it ani't broken? I've seen too many instance where a slot is put on a lake that just ruins it. Everyone starts keeping the same size fish and all of the sudden you have a lake with little variation in sizes. Not to mention the enforcement nightmare that would create.

I talked to a few wardens there last year that said a slot was likely for 09. So much for that. I think it would help the lake but a 4 eye limit would help more. The lakes in NE have slots and the shore fishermen kill tons of fish when the gut hook them with crawlers, then throw them back. For that matter, it's not just shore fishermen who kill fish with crawlers. Sometimes I think the fishery would be
better off enacting a 4 fish limit with release of walleyes after catching being outlawed! There sure is a bunch of floaters after a busy summer weekend.

If it's not broke YET just leave it? I agree it has produced good numbers for YEARS...but at some point this will catch up, look at how much more pressure it is getting. So I disagree with WAIT UNTIL IT HAPPENS TO CHANGE THINGS. Do you have any idea how frustrating it would be to be able to get the numbers of walleyes you can get right now out of Glendo for the next say 3 years and then you start to have 2 fish (if any) days for the next 5-10? I would rather they have to remove a slot for a few years because the BIG FISH are taking over, then have bad fishing for years because you want to keep everything. Ask any resort owner in Minnesota what the slot limit has done for THEIR FISHERERY..maybe not their business but the fishery...I would rather be able to catch fish that fell in the slot ALL DAY than not catch any. On Lake Winnie last year caught more slot fish then I could keepers on a few days and got discouraged for a moment and then realized I was catching ALOT of 19-25" fish and that was awesome! Just not sure how some form of a slot limit (even if it was a 15" minimum) would hurt Glendo in a negative way, besides hurt the feelings of the guys who want to keep EVERYTHING THEY CATCH. The number of fish being caught out of Glendo isnt really changing much...but the consistency of the size is.

Speaking of Glendo REPORTS! Anyone go out latley? How is Glendo?
Wyoming went through the whole putting a slot into effect because of the fishing pressure thing over 10 years ago when I was a biologist there. They didn't do it then and the fish population still hasn't decreased. Predicting the dynamics of a fishery is extremely difficult. There are a number of downfalls to putting on a slot limit too. It is very hard to compare this situation to a Minnesota situation. Lakes out here are reservoirs and lakes out there are natural lakes. The population dynamics are totally different. I know of reservoirs in Nebraska and South Dakota that have slots and it changed the dynamics of the populations for the worse.

Walleyes on Glendo are awesome and the populations of big fish is down....please release your fish over 18 inches....Take a picture and throw back for next angler to catch...U never know it may be your child of grandkid to catch the 10 pounder that was released...Just get really frustrated when I see anglers keeping everything they catch. The 15-18 inch fish taste better anyways...Release your nice ones....The WWC tourney this weekened....anyone have any ideas where to fish? what weights will win it?

I believe one of the things that protects the fishery is that after Mid-July the fishing pressure and harvest drops dramatically. Hopefully the shad population never crashes because it is the foundation that the wallys depend upon.

Tried Glendo on Monday, the 11th pretty slow but did manage to get 6 nice walleyes between 2 people. All 18 to 20 inchs. (jigs and minnows) Caught some right off the shore casting and others as deep as 15 feet while slow trolling the jig. Most of the people I talked to had similar luck. Everyone had a few but no one was slaying them.

BTW - he was really close...couple of 12 pounders were caught too.

40.20 lbs won the WWC.... on Glendo, I guessed 45 lbs...This weekend 45-50 lbs should win it....Watch out for the locals....they may be on a really hot bite....Go locals....

This report is from fishing last Fri-Sun. We were catching fish on crwler harness' and also jigging. We targeted depths of 10-20 ft. However we were not catching the large fish.

With reports like this:
http://gf.state.wy.us/services/news/pressreleases/09/06/01/090601_6.asp
The entire fishery is going to crash. If people took their fair share, Glendo probably couls sustain with the current regulations. Greedy people like this are going to ruin fishing in Wyoming.

I posted a similar response to to another thread on this forum regarding this issue.
Just because I have a Colorado plate on my truck, automatically red flags Wyoming residents that I am going to break the game and fish laws in their state!
These kinds of illegal activities hurt a lot more than just fish populations.
I'm the most law abiding person on the planet when it comes to hunting and fishing.
It just burns my butt that I get classified as a law breaker because of the color of my license plate.
These kinds of issues happen with a lot of other boarding states as well. I know, I grew up in Chicago, Il and we had a summer cottage in Wisconsin from the late 60's to the early 1980's.

I understand that you and I are on the same page with this.
I also recognize the fact that those people who are "Breaking wildlife laws" probably are not using forums like this in a constructive manner. Probably just surfing for information to see where the 'Hot Bites" are.
I also understand that a large number of people from Colorado go into Wyoming to hunt / fish and, just by numbers alone, would make it more likely that more people from CO would be getting pinched for wildlife violations.

Keep in mind, those "greenies" and other out of state folks fund your state's Game and Fish budget.
