You guys read that board at all ? Quite comical the way those guys go after each other !! Muskie Joe V. Marc Thorpe "AND in the premier bout there is Tonya Harding V.............."
Sounds like Marc makes his points but - dang !! If you don't fish muskie now - these guys certainly wouldn't attract you to the sport !!

What a goat !!

After being a musky fisherman for over 30 years now, i can tell you, as a matter of factly. jealousy of someone successful as Mark is, many are just plain jealous they cant do as good as him. just my opinion. good luck and good fishin. also thats why i dont post there anymore.

I look on there once in a while out of curiosity when things here get really slow. Yeah - they go at it hammer and tong.

What's up with that? Are walleye fishermen that much more refined?;)

Refined we are! You probably have never noticed this , but next time you are out fihsing and you make a cast watch your pinky finger on your rod hand kinda stick out like you are sampling a vintage wine from a piece of fine crystal. ;)

Yeah, the musky (muskie?) boards are full of controversies. Is it ego's or ???, I don't know...that's why I rarely post. But you know
what? The boat and motor board here can be just as bad with the Lund vs. anyotheraluminumboat and/or Ranger vs. anyotherglassboat postings too...

BUT, it's all still very entertaining if you don't let yourself get sucked into the quarels...

I was a 100% muskie fisherman until about 10 years ago. you ought to see a muskie club meeting. some of them have pretty big egos and kind of like to strut, but in all fairness some of them are pretty good guys, just stay away from the guys with the " Muskies--everything else is just bait" t-shirts on! now I am 50-50 muskie/walleye fisherman.

The Muskie fishing "business" is a really a sickening one. In the last few years I've watched 4 of the respected big name Muskie guys screw over 3 of my friends/family members. Slander/not fulfilling contracts/general bad mouthing... I've watched some of those same big name people absolutely slander small business owners on that board. I've seen some of the smaller guys that are 'in' with the big names slander others to cover up their illegal activities, and have the big name guys back them up. I've lost all respect for the sport and the so called icons of the sport. It's absolutely terrible. If you were to ever catch a record breaking fish, your name would turn to mud in a hurry. Suddenly you would have a tape that is 5 inches longer than everyone elses. Or you would have stuffed your fish with lead before bringing it to the scales. Or collusion with the guy with the scale or the taxidermist. Or something else other than a legitimate catch. You really need to watch your back.

Better to have and not need than to need and not have!

After I found Walleye central and then noticed Muskie central I went there often hoping to get some info. I love Muskie fishing but got tired real fast of all the fighting on that board. I do not go there anymore for the simple reason it is no fun. I have a few Muskie shirts I wear and I was sad to see a post saying people who wear them should be left alone.

Gee, guys, I feel picked on!

Muskie Fishermen in general are good folks, no different than Walleye or Bass anglers. I have worked most of my life in both industries, and have seen arguments in both. In fact, I have seen some knock down drag out fights right here between the refined folks...

Fishing can be competitive, and egos do get in the way.

just wanted to say, "wow". how do some of these posts get started? i have noticed some pretty similar posts on sites other than muskiecentral. i am a walleye guy that worked up at the muskie expo in blaine two weeks ago. we talked to and met a ton of excellent folks. the muskie fishermen that i spoke to were terrific. i was super impressed that the "muskie" fishermen were out at the expo regardless of the horrible storm on saturday. thank god for a healthy ego, it assists in selling alot of fishing rigs and equipment! fish more, whine less.

Tim, just kidding about the t-shirts. I have a couple of them myself. I think what I mean is as I am getting older (44) I like other things about fishing and not just catching a 40lb. muskie or a 12lb. walleye, neither of which has happen for me.

Muskie fishing had changed drastically over the past 20 years or so...based on the information that releasing fish really does work. The problem the sport has now is that we have two distinct sides: Those who are 100% catch and release (to the point it is sacreligious to even think of keeping a fish) to those who still feel it is their right to keep a fish. It is a controversy that we will see go on until we die. Along with some falsification of past record fish, even more is added to controversy.
My perceptions from Walleye central is that release is not the major issue. People keep walleye for table fare and it is widely accepted, hence there is no major conflict of release or not.

The other issue is that we (muskie freaks) have a BUNCH of Type A personalities tha clash over nothing important. It's almost funny sometimes to watch people go at it, although I, at times have succumbed to the same thing here and there. there is a certain amount of competition that goes on, no doubt.

Well, I suppose at first glance it does appear that muskie fishermen eat their young. I've been hanging out with some of these guys for a while, though, and I can tell you that the statements made at the beginning of this post are no more accurate than any other generalization made about a group of people. Read some more of the threads - the ones that start with "I need a prayer". There's one about a son of a St. Croix Rods employee who just had a brain cancer operation - and muskie fishermen are coming out of the woodwork to donate items for auction to raise money for expenses. The Ashton Auction on MuskieFirst is but another example of the big heart these fellows have.
Now, I know there is bound to be an inherent rivalry between men who fish for muskies because they enjoy a good, long, hard fishfight and those who fish for species that wiggle like limp dishrags, but let's not let a little bashing get in our way of everyone enjoying the wonderful sport of fishing, OK? m

I just checked it out for the first time. All I can say is thank god I'm a walleye guy!! Talk about immature babies. With all the bickering and back biting, it's a wonder how any information can get through. Makes me happy to be here.

Howdy Gang

Basically, Muskie Central has always carried a different tone than Walleye Central. When Steve Worrall and Jason Smith moderated the board, they did a great job of watching over it.

Jim McCullough has been heading up the moderator spot, with me only occasionally looking over his shoulder. He does a bang up job! We have allowed the discussion to be a little more, shall we say, spirited? Muskie Central now is in the same stage as Walleye Central was more than a few seasons ago. Some of you long timers here can remember those days......

However, when it gets out of hand, moderators step in.

It is my goal to create a little more user friendly tone there in the upcoming months. It is not a bad site, not by any means. You should see some of the stuff on other sites!

Feel free to cross over, or come into the light, as the muskie set would say. These boards, as well as Muskie Central are for everybody, and we intend to keep them that way.

Have fun...........R

Amen to that. I enjoy going SteelHead Fishing occassionally, but After I visited a Website Dedicated to it, I thought about carrying along a sidearm next time I go... Man-o-man.

Some folks need to get a "Second" hobby ;)

Howdy again,

I like the second hobby idea. Let's see, first is walleye fishing, does smallmouth fishing count as a second hobby?? :P

I was also invited to join, what was described to me as, the local "drinking club with a bad fishng habit." I know the guys were kidding, a bit, but is being a fishng club member a second hobby??? LOL

Have fun...........R
