View Full Version : Drift Bag ????

I recently purchased a 52" Wave Tamer drift bag to help slow my F100 Yamaha/1900 Pro-V when back trolling and drifting and would like to use it when forward trolling crankbaits, but I have a few questions. I mainly troll at night in less than 8' of water so I am concerned that the 52" diameter might be a little big (other than the fact that it could be used as a net to increase my catch). Is there any problem with hanging the bag off the bow eye and letting it drag under the boat? I have tried this and controll doesn't seem to be a big problem other than the fact that the boat might be a little slower in responding to turns, but the bag is out of the way most of the time. Does anyone have any solutions to hanging it off the hooks on the transom? I would consider this if there were a way to get it hooked up without causing a big problem with the motor, trolling motor, and splashguards getting in the way. Also I am worried that it would be in the way for hauling in fish and netting them. Any help would be appreciated. By the way, the Wave Tamer is the best. A little spendy, but well worth it. I have three other bags, but will use this one almost exclusively from now on.

EG,

There are 2 ways to use the bag to forward troll. The transom is one way and, like you said, will work well for slow turns. However, I have tied mine off the bow hook and let the bag flow under the boat on a very short line. (about 2'-2.5') This method offers the me a clear area behind the boat for boating fish.

If you are trolling into the wind and you kill the motor, the bag simply swings out to the front of the boat and retunrs when under power again.

The only caution I can offer is to be sure and remove the bag from the water when you want to head in. Since the bag is under the boat, there the possibility of forgeting it. I leave the storage bag on the floor as a reminder. :-)

Yes, this is a slick bag. Glad you like it.
