Garmin Internal Antenna

I am considering purchasing the garmin gps map 162 which come with either internal or remote antenna, basspro appears to handle the internal type, just wondering about the application of this and if the internal antenna would be sufficient in an open boat scenario, any help on this subject would be much appreciated.

I have the 162 with the external antenna and several of my friends have the 162 with the internal antenna. We all run the 162 in our trucks as well as our boats. I bought the external antenna because I already had another small(1"X1") antenna for my truck and wanted the advantage of a better signal quality but it is certainly not necessary. The 162 with the internal antenna works fine in the boat and in the truck. My friends tell me they have never lost coverage yet.
