Clear Lake walleyes

Have been getting reports of good numbers of small walleyes being caught on Clear Lake in north central Iowa. This is the time of year when you can catch them from shore or in a boat.

Also quite a few muskies being taken incidentally by walleye anglers. Heard of a 48 incher taken off the grade last week.

Now is a good time to get out.

Hey Bob where has been the best spot to catch walleyes. Me and a buddie just bought a boat and we are headed out in it tonight and were hoping to get on some fish. Generally this time of the year the outlet on the east end is good, but we have been there wading quite a bit with limited success is the best action on the grade in ventura. What lures have been working the best. Jigs and minnows is usually what we use this time of year.

I've heard the most success coming from around the grade, but that's where most people are fishing. However, there is current there and the water is warmer there, so it makes sense that that's where the most action is.

If you're fishing from your boat, I would also try around Dodges, would also try drifting the east shore around the outlet. I would have a sixteenth ounce Fire-Ball/minnow in the water, also a straight live bait rig. Keep two lines per person in the water with something different on each line.

There are lots of good spring spots on Clear Lake, keep moving until you find the best area.

We went out wednesday night and had pretty good luck on small walleyes. We started off in the little lake trolling lindy no snag rigs with minnows and caught 15-20 small 9-10 inch eyes. After about an hour of the we headed to the east end by the outlet and tried the same thing there and caught 5 eyes with three being 13 1/2 one 15 and one 17incher. We also got 10 yellows by the grade and weed beds.

Just heard from a buddy from clear lake that some one pulled in a 31inch eye at the grade last night. I sure hope they released her!!!!!

Can you tell me where the dollar dock is and what the protocol is to fishing it.

It's on the north shore, almost straight north of the island. I think it's across the street from the golf course, but not sure on that.

It's a long dock that used to cost a dollar to fish from. Not sure if they still let the general public fish from it.
