Alright, obviously I'm a planer board rookie!
Do you thread the line through both clips? Is it a spare? What's the story.

Yes, you use both clips. Not to get you confused, but there are several ways of doing this depending on whether you are fishing for walleye or salmon, whether you are using mono or a super-braid and whether you want the board to come off after a strike or to stay on after a strike or to slide down after a strike.
Add on top of that the fact that you may wish to add tattle flags and you can see why this can get confusing.
Why don't you let us know what you want to use the boards for and what type of line you will be using and I'll let the experts take it from there!
