I am wanting to install some rod holders. I will be using flush mounts on my gunnels. I have ample room and side mounts won't work with the trim. I would like to have one right next to the console. I am not too crazy about drilling through the gunnel without knowing if I have wires or cables right beneath the gunnel. The only access I have at that location seems to be by pulling the panel with the shift lever. It has large snap on buttons. Can I just use a thin flat tool like a dull putty knife to pry the buttons off and then screw off the male portion of the snap? Also do I need to do anything else to give me a little room for my arm. Do I have to pull off the shift lever? Any ideas would be appreciated.

usually those are just covers and phillips screws are underneath them. Gently pry them off.

Just installed downriggers on my Crestliner and had to remove the padded sides to get access under the gunnels. The buttons will come off quite easily with a standard (flat) screwdriver. Just get under the edge of the button and twist the screwdriver and it will "pop" off.

Thanks for the help. Will taking off the buttons and the phillips screws give me all the play I need to get my arm up there to check it out?

That will give you all the room you need to do whatever you wish underneath there. Chris K
