View Full Version : Rod holders on Lund Fisherman
I am going to install some flush mount scotty rod holders near the front seats on my lund fisherman and some berts tracks near the rear for my riggers and rod holders.
Is there anything in particular I should be aware of before drilling holes.
What type of bits do I need for the holes for the flush mounts.
What types of screws or bolts are best to use? Can stainless screws cause galvanice corrosion with the aluminum?
Thanks

its hard to drill holes in your boat

Did you use metal screws and drill a pilot hole?

I had a couple of flushmount RAM's on my Fisherman. I used a 1" hole saw and mounted them with 1/4 - 20 stainless bolt's. I also had the Bert's track's with Bert's ratchet rod holder's mounted right behind the windshield. I would go with all track's vs fixed mount rod holder's.

I have Cabelas flush mounts (which are Scotty) on the gunnels of my Lund.
You need a good quality 1 3/8" holesaw.
Look under your gunnel to make sure you don`t have any wires or cables mounted where the drill/saw will go through and hit.
You can drill through aluminum with a good hole saw. bi metel?
Your local hardware store will help you out.
My buddy has Ram Mount rod holders. If I were rigging a new boat I`d go with the Ram rod holders.
I like them better than my Quick Draws.
I have stainless screws on my mounts.
You will also want to silicone the underside of mounting bases and screw holes to keep out water from the plywood underneath the gunnel.
I second the tracks idea, or you will have to buy more bases and drill more holes to have versitility for different fishing techincs.
