Check a few columns back on the posts - I asked a similar question posted as Okuma vs. Diawa line counters. I got a lot of great responses. You'll see that many say the Diawa, though more expensive, is better in the long run.
good luck.......romertrain

If I had it to over again my choice would be Diawa 47lc. Have 6 and have had NO trouble what so ever.

I bought cheaper line counter reels at first!!!! Then I ended up buying 4 new diawa"s the next year. If you plan on trolling alot spend the extra money and get some thing that will last a lifetime~~~~~~ tight lines to you

Get the Daiwa's. You won't have any regrets with them.

I have used Diawa, Shimano and Okuma nad had no problem with any. I have 8 Okuma 20DX and 20X and after two years of tournament fishing I have had no problems. I have seen some lately on sale for $54.00.

The Daiwa 27's are on sale at BPS right now in combo with their Walleye Angler rods for $119.00. Their Gold Cup linecounter with the same rod is $79.00 at regular price. Check 'em out. If you want everyones opinions, do a search in the archives. Tons of advice!!

okuma 20dx and 30dx, yes they are cheaper, but i believe they are of the same quality as the daiwas. I have used both, no problems, the okuma is cheaper but not a lick of problems. smooth

I just got a flyer in the mail from Bass Pro. The P/K Walleye Angler rods ARE on sale right now. I believe they are $20 off regular price.
At $39 for the 8-1/2 ft trolling rod they can't be beat.

This is a timely topic. I have been debating this decision all winter, but it is time to make the purchase and get rigged. I have a Daiwa 47 and really like it. However a freind recommended the Okuma 20dx's for my new rods. I have reviewed the previous posts on this site and most of the complaints I have seen on the Okuma's has been regarding the drag. However, at the fishing show this year at the Dome, I spoke to a tackle store rep. who seemed very knowledeable on reels. He said that Okuma did have problems with the drag in the past, but the ones that came out this year have the drag problem fixed. The way to tell if they are the new models is to set the lever so that line feeds out and if it automatically trips shut when you begin to reel, it is the new model. The rep. felt that the new Okuma drag was actually better than the Daiwa's.
Also, what is the difference between the 47LC and SG47LC. I'd appreciate any thoughts.

Take a look at the BPS Spring Classic flier, p.5, 1/3 of the way down the page. The Daiwa SG27LC is listed for $119.94 in combo with a Walleye Angler rod. I just bought two of them. All of the Walleye Angler rods are on sale by themselves as well ($20.00 off -- bottom of p.11). The Gold Cup reel is on sale by itself for $49.99 on p.5, and in combo with a Gold Cup downrigger rod for $69.98 on p.1. The regular price for the Gold Cup reel and Walleye Angler rod combo is $79.98 (p.39 of the Master Angler Spring 2002 catalog). I also bought two of these combos so I could give the new reel a try. Hope this helps. Good fishin'.
Hey Woodsdweller,
I went to the BPS web site and couldn't find the $119 deal. Can you point me in the right direction.
