I am terrible with names and numbers. The Offshore boards come with a black release, I swap those out for the red one just better. If you have lead core I noticed that the clamping release (definitely not going to release) this one has a trigger to clamp down and release the other two are just squeeze. I have all three and the deal is to get the one that doesn't release in the waves, the black ones seem problematic to me. Now you can wrap your line around the black one and then clamp down, it won't release either.

I think you need to try them out and see if you really like it to release or just reel it in and release it yourself. Me I prefer the latter, I really don't want it to release to early. The easiest to pop loose is the last one mentioned it is also the most expensive ... oh course. :)

I'm thinking he's talking about the releases for the big boards
We used to make our own out of a aligator clip with rubber hose on the tip
I've heard of other people using cloth pins or rubber bands

On the inlines
I myself change just the front snap to a OR-16 (red)
It makes it easy to put the board on or take it off with one hand

But I see now they come with OR-19 (Orange) snaps instead of the OR-14 (black) snaps

In line planer board releases, or big planer board releases?

If the first...and you're using Off Shore Boards...change out the the OR-14's (black releases) to OR-16's (red with a pin in the center). If you want the best set up then put an OR-18 (black "Snapper" release) on the tow arm and the OR-16 on the back.

If the second...there's others here that can answer that question better than I can. :)

I use rubber bands for my "Big Board" releases!

Just leave 'em on your dash and they'll get a little brittle.
