The Red Cedar River below the dam in Menomonie is open for game fish
except Muskies and Paddlefish and possibly sturgeon. Also I think certain parts of the Chippewa River are open year round. Not sure as I
don't have the regulation book in front of me. Hope this helps some.

The Chippewa river is open all year. At least it was when I lived up there. It flows right through Eau Claire. Those in the know catch walleyes from shore this time of year. Find North High School and fish the river area closest to North, there's a boat landing in the area. However, for better fishing I would suggest that you go north to the next town which is Chippewa Falls. Just outside Chippewa Falls is Lake Wissota which is open all year because the Chippewa River flows through it. If you're looking for a local guide try a guy by the name of Musky Bob, he lives on the lake and would have the latest info.

I live in Eau Claire. The Chippewa river is open year around downstream from the dam in Eau Claire and the Eau Claire river is open from the Altoona dam downstream to the Chippewa River. There is a good shore fishing spot on the East side of the Chippewa River behind the city shop with stairs going down to the river. Use 1/4 or 3/8 oz. egg sinkers with a hook and a minnow hooked through the head. Cast out as far as possible and you should get some walleye action. If you have a problem or want some other spots call me (Bill Reabe) 715-835-1111. Good luck.

HEY,THAT'S GREAT! JUST THE KIND OF INFO I WAS LOOKING FOR. HOW DEEP IS THE RIVER? I HAVE A PRO-V1900 AND I WOULD LIKE TO BRING IT WITH,BUT I DONT WANT TO RUN THE RISK OF ROCK DAMAGE. ALSO,DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW MUCH A NON-RES LICENSE WOULD COST FOR MY WIFE AND I AND OUR TWO KIDS(UNDER 6 Y/O)? I LOOKED ON THE WISC DNR SITE AND DIDNT FIND A CONTOUR MAP OF LAKE WISSOTA,WHERE COULD I FIND ONE OF THOSE,AND MAYBE THE WHOLE FLOWAGE FROM EAU CLAIRE TO CHIP FALLS? OH YA AND ONE MORE THING,ARE THEY CONSIDERABLY SAFE TO EAT?

The Chippewa River above the dam in Eau Claire and Lake wissota are no longer open year around. Only below the dam is open. I wouldn't plan to use your 1900 on the river it is very treacherous and shallow. You could however haul it to Red Wing or Alma and fish below the dams there. If you would like info on boat landings etc. you can email saugerguy@aol.com. No problem with eating the fish out of the river, just use the same precautions as the other lakes in Wisconsin. The fees are: nonres. annual - $34.00, nonres. 4 day - $15.00, nonres. 15 day family - $30.00, nonres. annual family - $52.00, hope this helps.

Forgot to tell you. The Chippewa River in Eau Claire to NOT Very deep. There are a few holes about 20-30 ft but most of the river is 5 ft or less. Don't plan on taking your big boat out there. I have a 14 ft with a 30 hp and I have to be careful about rocks and boulders. You really have to know where you are going.
