Do any of you know what the average annual salary of a fishing boat sales person is in the Midwest?
I might have a shot at a boat sales gig with a big box store and would like some feedback from folks other than HR.
Thanks

What line of boats, base plus commission, benefits? I've been a salesman for over 20 years, can be VERY rewarding or you can go Very hungry. When you say big box that kind of narrows it down but what are your expectations? 35k or 110k plus? You can PM me to get more specific if you'd like to.

I read where outboard motor fishing boat sales were down 40% nationwide. Is this really the time to jump on that bandwagon?

This won't be my only source of income.
There is a draw against commission. $500 weekly draw.
I'd like to be able to gross at least 50K annually off this endeavor.
What do you folks think is realistic?

It can be good if you have good brands and a decent renumeration package and a service department that is good.
It gets pretty lean from Oct thru Jan.
With fishboats, you had better be able to talk the talk... and even better if you can walk the walk.
In my experience, my best fishing boat sales people came up through the service and rigging part of the business.
I cannot overstate how much nicer the quality of life for a boat salesman is, if his dealer has an excellent service department. Both for stress levels and confidence levels.
Unhappy customers = unhappy, stressed out salespeople. (And, that is no fun)
