My home lake has some walleye in it, people never fish for them, but I have caught some while bass fishing. How can I start? The lake has clear water down by the dam and stained water in the upper end, water is in the mid. 60's now.

slo roll.

there are so many variables to that. depends on what your lake has for structure, forage, depth. what kind of lake is it? is trolling allowed? how many acres is it? is the lake stocked? with what fish? when-how often?
you need to fill in so many blanks i don't know where to start on this one. i'm not familiar with oklahoma other than you get lots of tornados.
i'm glad to see you're switchin to walleyes cuz bass are for people that don't know how to catch fish.

you say you caught a walleye while bass fishing. my guess is that you were fishing in weeds or the pockets of weeds. this will work for walleyes too. they will feed along the edges of the weeds or in the pockets depending on circumstances. dawn and dusk are best times for eyes.

sorry i can't help too much more. there are sooooooo many variables i'm not sure where to start with this one. why not learn a little more about walleyes through articles on this site and learn to pick apart your lake for different transition zones.

sorry i cant help more

Mind if I ask what lake? I grew up fishing Broken Bow and Pine Creek. We caught a few walleye out of them so I might be able to help.

The lake is Tenkiller's Ferry. It's a reservoir. Structure is rock and more rock, no grass, depth by the dam is 100 plus ft. Treadfin shad is the primary forage LOTS of Treadfin. 13000 Surface acres, trolling is allowed. Deep channel swings and deep chunk rock banks, dirt and clay flats. Pearch, bass, catfish, gizzard shad, drum, carp, etc

Cool name, Tenkiller's ferry. The structure sounds similar to NM lakes (Conchas, Ute, Abiquiu) we have rocky outcrops and deep canyon types, with flats, humps, islands. I would look from the dam back for big bends in the river channel, with a flat, trees on one side, and hopefully a point. Also look for drop offs, cliffs and where the channel intersects with the rocky structure.

Try running some rip shad, shad rap, little rippers, rip sticks, etc cranks (trolling) to get a feel for the fish, then when you catch some, come in on the spots with a jig/worm or jig/minnow. Really work the area over. Be sure and keep a log of water temp, clarity, weather, wind and areas, fish caught, lures, etc.

Good luck, sounds like fun catching fish that others don't fish for.
